13th September, 2022Tu Kaun Hai is an original song that describes a powerful influence somebody has on you, a feeling that cannot be defined in words. It’s an energy that leaves a lasting impact. Tu kaun hai, a question we often ask, to ourselves.
The song is an original song by Shadow and Light, a contemporary-classical duo of Anindo Bose and Pavithra Chari, and prolific composer Salim Merchant. It is the second single in 2022 for Shadow and Light, and is released under Merchant Records. Anindo and Pavithra composed the song back in 2021 and shared it with Merchant, who composed the middle section. Salim’s lyrics are written by Shradha Pandit.
The song also has a music video, conceptualised as a jam/performance. Shot by Tushar Mahajan, it encapsulates the joy and passion that fuelled the composition of this single, and the magic that is created in collaboration.
Anindo Bose and Pavithra Chari might have different musical backgrounds, but when they come together as Shadow and Light, the result of their collaboration is eclectic, melodious and cohesive. Chari (singer, songwriter) and Bose (keyboardist, sound engineer), are the contemporary-classical duo from Delhi who compose music in Hindi, English and Tamil.
Pavithra is a disciple of Smt. Shubha Mudgal and a U.S Dept of State alumna. She has represented India at various artist residencies and international camps across the world. An expressive arts-based therapist, she works with at-risk children in India. She debuted as a playback singer for composer D.Imman for the Tamil film 'Udanpirappe' (2021) and recently for composer Yuvan Shankar Raja for the film 'Valimai' (2022).
Anindo has been featured on Coke Studio, MTV Unplugged and toured internationally. He's a keyboardist, arranger/composer and one of the founding members of fusion outfit Advaita. In 2012 the band won various awards including GIMA (Global Indian Music Awards) for Best Rock Album. Anindo owns and operates Plug 'n' Play Studios and has been recording/producing artists for various independent releases, film and brand campaigns.
As a duo, their originals feature a harmonious confluence of a variety of genres from Hindustani classical, pop, jazz, and electronic. Together they have released three albums, Shadow and Light (2014), ‘Elements’ (2016) and ‘Sabar’ (2018).
