Music composer and mandolin player Raman Iyer has released an instrumental track Night Trails.
Based on the Raaga Bagheshri, the composition is woven around an electronica soundscape with ambient vocals added by Saloni Desai, who has also produced the track.
Saloni Desai is a prodigy trained at Suresh Wadkar's academy and has been performing live on stage right from the age of 5. She has lent her voice to several advertisements and animations including Chota Bheem. She is also a music producer who loves to experiment with live instrumentations.
"The piece attempts to capture the spring in the step of a woman sneaking out at night. It's inspired by the Abhisarika, one of the Ashtanayikas (8 types of leading ladies) mentioned in the Natyashastra, who represents the lady who breaks conventions and sneaks out at night to meet her forbidden love. I chose the Raaga Bageshri because that's best listened to at late nights" Raman says.
This is Raman Iyer's eighth solo release, after parting ways from his band Kabir Cafe in 2020.
