The Sacred Geometry is a difficult yet enthralling collaborative project of two architects / indie electronic artists / producers "The Psy Owl" and "PRNV".
Coming from different styles and school of thoughts, this project is an amalgamation of granulated lofi sounds, sampling and signature elements and sounds inspired from old school hip hop by PRNV (a.k.a. Pranav Jadhav) with the ambient downtempo type flow, synthesised soundscapes and lush layered vocals of The Psy Owl (a.k.a. Siddhartha Ghosh).
The project came into being during their years together in college and took a proper shape from India Film Projects' 50 hour music challenge wherein they participated as a team in 2021 and have been working on tracks together ever since. Coming from an architectural background, the duo draws their inspiration from the golden ratio, biomimicry, parametric design among other concepts. The aim of the project is to invoke all the senses of the listener and to capture the fleeting essence of a space without boundaries; and the listener, perceiving everything from the centre of it all. They draw parallels from architecture to design their soundscapes; and the arrangement and composition relies on the use of number theories to get a more interesting outcome.
The electronic duo are mainly into IDM, Future house, Melodic house, Folktronica, Melodic Techno etc. and are slowly getting into sampling Hindustani classical music and Ragas as the backbone for their tracks and amalgamating it with electronic elements.
“Paper was a failed cover experiment of a classic English song that we wanted to revisit in The Sacred Geometry style. We started off by recording the guitar and vocals ourselves, which we sampled again but the initial draft sounded no close to the actual cover we wanted to make, thus discovering a new style of production for our songs. We took that melody and scratch idea and worked further on it. The first step was to craft a glitchy drum pattern out of the regular 808s that would compliment the sampled guitar and vocal chops, thus creating the main structure” says PRNV
“All that we needed to do was adorn it with some shimmering arps and sweeps. We wanted to play around with the vocal textures this time and this track seemed like a good mix for some grunge radio type sound which became the hook of this track. The main verses were done in our signature lush style with just the right amount of reverb to tickle your bones. But still this track seemed to be missing something. One afternoon while we were chilling and listening to David Gilmour’s solo, we randomly came up with a plan to sample some guitars but ended up recording something ourselves thus creating a new layer of sounds. The lyrics are from the protagonist’s point of view while on an introspective psychedelic trip. One questions the nature of existence and mankind while he experiences the different dimensions this trip has to offer” adds The Psy Owl.
The duo have been featured in the Electronic in India playlist by Spotify and recently got nominated for IFP season XII awards for 50 hours music making challenge in the Electronic category whose jury included OAFF, Raja Kumari, Rajan Batra, Shalmali Kholgade, Sneha Khanwalkar.
