Pranati Khanna aka "Peekay" is a musician and entrepreneur from Hyderabad. From being lead singer of the rock band “Spell Check” (previously “The Ragamuffins”) to going solo in 2020 as a Pop/RnB artist, Peekay never stops experimenting with her sound.
She recently released her latest work Squeaky Clean, her6th single. Peekay performed at the recently concluded NH7 Pune and will be seen performing at Echoes of Earth Festival on 3rd or 4th December.
Her first few singles as a solo artist Good, Old Fashioned in Love and Much Better were produced by Bangalore based, Grammy nominated producer - Jonathan Anand Wesley and collectively hit 50,000 streams on Spotify in no time at all.
She followed these with singles Dunno, You Don’t Have To, and Sunshine On The Street (Ft. Andrea Tariang) produced by Hyderabad-based producer, Jonathan Edward, all of which gained her a lot of recognition on the independent music circuit as they all hit over 100,000 streams collectively.
Peekay’s tracks have been reviewed extensively by major online publications, local papers, podcasts and featured on several Spotify playlists. She has performed her original sets at all major venues across the country including “The Pianoman Jazz Club'' in Delhi, “Black Orchid” in Chennai, “Fandom” in Bengaluru as well as music festivals such as “Sauce” in Mumbai, “NH7 Weekender” in Pune, “Echoes Of Earth” in Bengaluru and more. Her performances are packed with energy and positive affirmations, leaving her audience feeling elated.
Speaking of her performance at NH7 and first time on the Nh 7 stage, Peekay stated, “Wow, that was beautiful. Music lovers from all over across the country were in one massive space, at every stage. I haven’t felt more ONE with a stage than I did at nh7. Alex, Eddy and I have played tons of stages to all kinds of audiences in many cities before, but this time it was to a sea of PURE music lovers. The gorgeous part was not only did we have a wonderful audience but so many people already knew the songs and were enjoying every second of the performance. I had the most amazing conversations with so many new people that day and I felt like it was the first day of the rest of my career as a musician”.
Popular for her songwriting, whimsical and comical concept music videos and her passion for artist collaboration, Peekay is focused on ensuring that her music represents The Arts in every way. From featuring her illustrations on merchandise related to each release to conceptualizing her own music videos and selecting teams of artists to include in each project, her aim is to encourage The Arts in her city and showcase talent from her community.
Peekay’s sound is an interesting mix of her husky Jazz influences, honest songwriting, inspired by her own life and pop music from across the ages. Often compared to “Hiatus Kaiyote”, “Moonchild” and “Erykah Badu”, her style of performance and soulful writing is indeed attributed to her idols and influences.
Winner of an Asia INC. 500 award for her contribution to The Arts - Peekay also co-owns a Design & Marketing firm in Hyderabad called “The Whole Shebang”, was also a partner with an Olive Group speakeasy called Giggle Water which she turned into Hyderabad’s first Jazz bar and LGBTQ inclusive venue as well as displays her Digital Art at exhibitions every few years and most recently (2022) at The Pullman in New Delhi.
