Anuradha Pal mesmerises Navi Mumbai audience with virtuosic performance

World renowned Tabla maestro, Pandita Anuradha Pal, enthralled audiences at the Nerul Gymkhana amphitheatre on 10th December 2022, with a dazzling performance of her new, unique musical innovation titled ‘Anuradha’s Tablas Sing Stories’.

Using two separate Tablas, she presented Ardha Nareshwar- a truly remarkable dialogue between the masculine and the feminine, Shiva and Shakti from  Indian mythology. The accompanying keyboard Lehra in was also in two different Ragas (corresponding to the two Tablas), further establishing Anuradha’s credentials as a highly innovative and contemplative performer and music composer.

She seamlessly segued between her two Tablas, performing the traditional repertoire of all 6 Gharanas of the Tabla as well as her own contemporary interpretations as she presented humorous stories from everyday life on her Tablas, in a performance marked with immense creativity, spontaneity, pinpoint rhythmic artistry and sparkling articulation; to rapturous applause and appreciation from the captivated audience.

As a grand finale to the performance, Anuradha was joined onstage by Festival co-ordinator, Dr. Jaydip Sensarma, and other organising committee members for an impromptu vocal & dance rendition of Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Ekla Chalo Re’, leading into an extremely popular semi-classical composition (Thumri), where Anuradha showcased her immense versatilitywith a masterful performance of traditional and rarely heard Laggis, as the audience clapped along to the rhythm.

The audience had been bewitched by Anuradha’s majestic performance, showering her with a lengthy standing ovation and extracting a promise from her to be back every year to continue to nurture Classical Music audiences and inspire the younger generation.

What was truly remarkable was that in keeping with the festival’s aim to promote and propagate Indian Classical Music in Navi Mumbai, Anuradha’s performance catered to everyone, from Classical Music aficionados to the young kids in the audience, who were equally enthusisatic in their admiration and praise.

The performance was part of the Dhrupadi Annual Classical Music Festival presented by Rotary Club of Navi Mumbai Samaritans and Nerul Gymkhana.
