Nagaland based Trance Effect’s new track, ‘Blue Sweatshirt’, is a cheerful, upbeat number

Nagaland-based alternative rock band Trance Effect launched their first track of 2023, Blue Sweatshirt, on 27th January 2023. Cheerful and upbeat, Blue Sweatshirt is free in its form and undoubtedly high in spirit.

With the onset of 2023, the COVID-19 pandemic might have started becoming a thing of the past, but no one can argue that it has touched the lives of almost everyone on this planet.

While most experiences of the pandemic must have been bitter, there are a few sweet ones as well. The quest for finding love and loved ones actually peaked online during the horrid lockdown period, and the lucky ones did find what they were looking for.

This is precisely what the premise is for Trance Effect’s new song, which explores love during the lockdown.

The band, who had a fantastic 2022, earlier opened for Danish soft rock/pop band MTLR at the Indian Open Air in Guwahati last November apart from their stellar performances at the North East Festival, Delhi, Hidden Kingdom Music Festival, Bhutan and Serendipity Arts Festival, Goa, amongst others. They also had a whooping 172.3K streams on Spotify, with the audience panning to 108 countries, making things wholesome.

And now Trance Effect is all set to kick start 2023, with Blue Sweatshirt, the teaser of which has already captivated quite a few of their listeners. The band has been working on an EP and this song is very much a glimpse into what is in the making.

“This song is about this cute couple that met online during the lockdown and their love story. It’s about the couple’s urge to meet each other in the midst of the lockdown,” said Sosang Lkr, the writer of the song and also the drummer of the band.

“It’s a song with straightforward lyrics and anyone who listens to it can very easily make out what the song is all about,” Sosang further added.

The song embodies love, which according to the creators, is one of the best feelings in the world. It narrates the feeling when your loved ones happen to be away from you and circumstance is such that you can’t just meet them.

The lyricist further explains, how in the song there is also a reference to their last EP, Clowns, in the form of ‘The Time Machine’, thus making this release a continuation of the existing body of brilliant work that Trance Effect has already been doing.

Trance Effect is an independent pop-rock band from Dimapur, Nagaland, formed in 2017.

The quintet consists of Iuli Yeptho, Sosang Lkr, Tako Chang, Temsujungba Jamir and Imnamaong Imchen. Acclaimed for their palpably melliflous and lively rhythms, the band satiates their listeners’ souls with their upbeat ambience. Their debut EP, ‘Clowns’ marked a major milestone for the band’s journey uphill by setting the tone for the songs that followed. The band’s intricacy in style and medium are subtly embedded in their songs which are a potent combination of love, heartbreak and refound love. The lyrical content which is carefully interwoven with the dazzling tunes of the organs aids in evoking indelible emotions in the listeners.
