Swaralaya organised the annual day Guru Poornima Samarpanam programme at Thackeray auditorium in Borivili on 16th July 2023. Students performed vocal music, playing percussion instruments like the mridangam and also performed selected items from the Bharatanatyam repertoire. It was quite an exciting moment for children and parents as their children attracted the limelight while performing music and dance numbers.
Shaurya Satish, disciple of Vijaya Krishnamurthy rendered a musical rendering in the carnatic style which was appreciated by the gathering Shaurya is incidentally the fourth generation of the musical family, taking the legacy forward. The dance students seek their guidance from accomplished Bharata Natyam exponent and mentor, Guru Nisha Satish.
Swaralaya was founded in the year 2013 by P G Krishnamurthy. Since the last 10 years, Swaralaya has imparted training to hundreds of students of music and dance, many of whom have gone ahead to take up music and dance professionally.
Vijaya Krishnamurthy, an experienced Carnatic vocalist who hails from a family with a rich legacy of music, is one of the founders of Swaralaya and trains students in Carnatic Vocal Music. Satish Krishnamurthy, an accomplished percussionist and composer who has performed in India as well as abroad with the best of the musicians, trains students to play Mridangam, Ghatam, Kanjira and in Konnakol.
Guru Nisha Satish, a virtuoso dancer and teacher with more than 30 years of experience in the field, has been training students in the art of Bharata Natyam. In the year 2020, Swaralaya got incorporated as an organisation with a mandate to promote Indian Music and Arts. Apart From imparting education to its students, Swaralaya has been actively promoting Indian Art and Culture by organizing events in collaboration with leading musicians of the country. In Dec-2022, Swaralaya as part of it's Annual Day Function, organized a wonderful concert of Hindustani and Carnatic Music featuring leading artists like Manas Kumar on Violin, Tanay Rege on Tabla and Mandolin by Suresh kumar and Satish Krishnamurthy (Mridangam, Ghatam, Kanjira, Konnakol) at the Gyansagar Amphitheatre in Mumbai.
Mridanga Vidwan Satish Krishnamurthy leads an ensemble called Rudra which presents Indian Classical Music with special focus on percussion instruments and music. Rudra has been presented at several leading music conferences such as Girnar Festival, some more names. Swaralaya organizes Guru Purnima event every year, where its students present their respective art forms in front of their gurus and the audience.
The junior and senior students of Shri Satish Krishnamurthy presented an energetic Laya Vinyasam presentation, while students of Smt Nisha Satish presented a bouquet of dance presentations with a finale dance presentation by Nisha Krishnamurthy. Sumitra Rajguru, senior Bharata Natyam dancer and guru graced the occasion as Chief Guest and blessed all the students with her presence and inspiring words. Guru Lata Raman and Guru Revathi Srinivasraghavan were the Guests of Honour for the event. The event was also graced by renowned Kuchipudi exponent and eminent arts critic, Guru Vijay Shankar, well known art aficionado, organiser M K Patel and many other dignitaries.
Swaralaya Sangeet Vidyalaya Foundation (SSVF) is a leading institution in Mumbai offering quality education in the field of Carnatic Music and Bharata Natyam. It currently offers training in Carnatic vocal, percussion music and Bharata Natyam to students at its premises in Mumbai. It is affiliated to Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and Bridge University, Mumbai.
