If you type Amyt Datta in Google, his name comes up as the greatest guitarist of India, that is the level of accolade and respect this man holds in the Indian music scene.
Amyt Datta, a world renowned virtuoso guitarist, carves his own sound in whatever he touches. Forever ahead of his time, his music challenges present norms and rules. This is his latest presentation, Amyt Datta Electric Power Quartet a jazz/prog heavy setup featuring the multifaceted and gifted Sambit C on drums, his forever comrade in all his setups Aakash Ganguly on bass and the superbly talented Samrat Mukherjee on keys/ synth.
Their first debut gig got record breaking response from press, musicians and patrons. They are definitely here to stay. Post that, they have multiple gigs and have given the audience an awe inspiring experience, something that is rare nowadays.
In a time of well produced music the Amyt Datta Electric Power Quartet gives an ethereal experience, one that requires the audience to be active members in the performance and be completely engrossed in the feelings that the band members portray. This is not another jazz band, or rock band or progressive band. Each track has a story, a movement that the band wants you all to be a part of.
This is the band's first performance at the prestigious Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Center (NMACC) and they are absolutely thrilled to be presenting a one of a kind audio visual experience for the audience.
The band also consists of some of the finest musicians of the country. Sambit Chatterjee has been playing drums for the past 15 years, having taken tabla classes from his father (Grammy Nominated Tabla Maestro) Pandit Subhen Chatterjee, Sambit has now branched out, trying to find his own sound. He considers Ranjit Barot of be one of his mentors now, he has been endorsing some of the leading music brands of the world now like Zildjian Cymbals, EVANS Drum Heads, VicFirth drum sticks, Sennheiser IEM, CRS Cymbal Resonant System and has been playing and touring the world for a while now. He is playing with some of the leading bands in the circuit like Aswekeepsearching, Karma – Bandish Fusion, What Escapes Me, Amyt Datta and with some virtuosos artists like DIVINE(Indian rap sensation), Mohini Dey, Niladri Kumar, Rhythm Shaw and Tajdar Junaid. He has been invited by the genius Ustad. Zakir Hussain to play solo and Indian compositions at his father, Ustad. Allah Rakhha Khan's 100th birthday celebration concert and the very next day he performed with highly acclaimed vocalist Isheeta Chakraborty at the Mumbai International Jazz Day under Herbie Hancock curated by the Indian Jazz Legend Louis Banks held at National Centre for the Performing Arts.
Sambit is also a regular at all the biggest festivals in INDIA, a prominent name in the Indian music circuit. at the NH7 Weekender Festival Sambit was invited by SWITCHFOOT the American Alternative band to share stage and play a song with them and he was the only drummer to represent INDIA at the Commonwealth Games Gold Coast 2018 and performed with Susheela Raman and Sam Mills.
On the Keyboard Samrat Mukherjee is a young, talented, versatile, piano and keyboard player from Kolkata, India. Though trained in classical music, he has evolved as a Blues, soul, pop jazz and Afro-Cuban, Latin musician. Over the years, he has been a part of various bands and projects, namely, Span, The Saturday Night Blues Band, The Big Family Blues Ensemble, Tajdar Junaid, The Nukkad Salsa project, Stella, A4, Lim and the Hellhounds, The Folk Foundation, Disco Inferno, Sahana Bajpaie and of course Amyt Datta Electric Power Quartet. He has also collaborated with musicians like Lukkif and Anne from Denmark, been an arranger and musician at the Friday Night Originals and also is a part of the FNO Ensemble. Samrat has also been arranging, composing, scoring music and performing live, for movies, web series and jingles.
On the bass Aakash Ganguly, one of the leading bass players of our country, who has an experience of more than 15 years, someone who has been beside Amyt Datta in all his projects for a very long time, he has been playing all over the country with various artists but he will also say the same thing that playing with Amyt changed his life as it did for Sambit and Samrat.
This is the band's first performance at the prestigious Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Center and they are absolutely thrilled to be presenting a one of a kind audio visual experience for the audience, no two gigs of theirs are the same and this one will have a lot of surprises and new elements. The band will have a set of 11 originals that have all been composed by Amyt Datta, but structured and brought to life by the band in their sound, a sound that cannot be put in any one box, you can call it Jazz but you can also call it progressive, but you can also call it fusion, but you can also call it rock but there are elements of Indian raag as well, they are unique individually as the as team.
