True School of Music (TSM), India’s first comprehensive institute of contemporary music was founded by Mr. Ashutosh Pathak, who also doubles up as a multi-instrumentalist. He is also the man who changed the live music scenario in Mumbai as Co - Founding Partner, Bluefrog Night Club.

TSM has come up with an innovative model for the musicians who think they do not have enough career exposure in the music industry. It is called ‘Musicpreneur’. Ashu would like to sort the life of amateur musician’s career in India by offering various opportunities in the music industry.  It becomes very difficult for a musician to earn swift money. TSM has come up with a very realistic and a groundbreaking concept that TSM would to explain.  

Ashu, as he is fondly referred to as, has over 15 contemporary music albums in the last two decades to his name, he is a much-in demand composer in the advertising and films circles.

Ashu along with the Co-founder Mr. Nitin Chandy established True School on Music in September 2013. The True School of Music educates its students in Western and Indian music instruments, music production, composition, live sound and DJing.  It does this through flexible options of full-time and part-time courses. It has some of the world's leading professional tutors, state-of-the-art facilities, and strong industry connections. TSM equips budding musicians with all the knowledge and expertise they need to turn their musical passion into a successful career.

He has composed music for over 4,000 television commercials and soundtrack for over 10 feature films, including critically acclaimed films like the Mahesh Bhatt-directed Tamanna (1997), Kaizad Gustad’s unorthodox Hindi comedy Bombay Boys (1998), the Rahul Bose-starrer White Noise (2004) and most recently, for the acclaimed documentary, Fire in the Blood (2013) which premiered at the celebrated Sundance Film Festival in 2013 where it was nominated for the Grand Jury prize. Hollywood Reporter referred to Ashu’s music for the documentary as “effective and graceful music adding to the power and poignancy of the theme”. Currently he is working on the Bollywood feature film Zubaan set to release sometime next year.

A popular figure on the live music scene in India plus a regular at the festival circuit, Ashu has also performed at the popular and highly respected Mahindra Blues Festival, Sulafest, NH7 festival, Sunburn as well as international festivals such as South by South West (SXSW) to mention a few. He continues to perform with, and produce, multiple bands across India.

He is also one of the founding partners of BlueFrog, a brand that single-handedly changed the face of the live independent music scene in India with currently 3 clubs around the country and a fourth under construction. Ashu, most recently in 2013, co-founded of the True School of Music, India’s first comprehensive institute of contemporary music. Ashu has been at the forefront of the change that has swept across the music landscape in India in the past seven years.

He has also has several awards to his name, an Ad Asia award for Amnesty International, Abby awards, IMA Big Star award, among others. He was one of the speakers at TEDx Bandra organised by American School Bombay.

He lives in Mumbai, India along with his dogs, Frodo, Magic and Scruffy.
