This Friday evening Mumbai will witness five noted musicians take the stage in a concert titled Take 5. Take 5, is an edgy, modern, one-of-a kind electrifying Carnatic music concert with five of the finest Carnatic musicians today. The concert draws its power from the unique combination of vocal music, world class percussion, konnakol and more.

At the centre of the concert is Padma Bhushan Ghatam Maestro Vidwan Vikku Vinayakram who is credited with having popularised the instrument worldwide. With him on stage is TM Krishna, one of the most exciting and powerful Indian Classical musicians with a pan India appeal who brings new ideas and passion to every concert. Ace mridangam artist and composer K Arun Prakash and violinist HK Venkatram bring their special artistry to the mix along with Kanjira and Konnakol wizard Swaminathan Selvaganesh, the grandson of Vidwan Vikku Vinayakram.

The concert is titled "Take 5" as there are five artists on stage, each offering their own talents, be it Ghatam maestro Vikky Vinayakram, vocalist T.M Krishna, Venkataram HK on violin, Arunprakash Krishnan on mridangam and N Ramakrishnan on konnakol.

T M Krishna speaks volumes of Ghatam maestro Vikku Vinayakram when he says in a promo video, “I’m going to singing a very special concert with a very special person, the one and only Vikku Vinayakram sir, one of the greatest musician India has ever produced. About five years ago I had the privilege of sharing the stage with him at the Afghan Church in Colaba, Mumbai, where we presented a concert together for the first time. So its once again a privilege to share the stage with him watching his magic unravel as he participates in this meeting”.

For those who may not know, Thodur Madabusi Krishna (T.M. Krishna), one of the pre-eminent vocalists in the rigorous Karnatik tradition of India's classical music. As a public intellectual, Krishna speaks and writes about issues affecting the human condition and about matters cultural. His book ‘Sebastian and Sons; A Brief History of Mrdangam Makers,’ published by Context in 2020, traces the history of the mrdangam-maker and the mrdangam over the past century. It received the Tata Lit Live Award for the Best Non-Fiction book for the year 2020.In 2016, Krishna received the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award in recognition of ‘his forceful commitment as artist and advocate to art’s power to heal India’s deep social divisions’.

The Take 5 concert India tour begins with this first concert in the wonderful ambience of St Andrews Auditorium in Bandra, Mumbai before travelling to other cities in the upcoming season.
