24th November, 2023Indian hip hop collective Wild Wild Women have released their long awaited title track Wild Wild Women. The single features rappers HashtagPreeti, MC Mahila, Pratika, JQueen and Krantinaari from the collective. The song is produced by DRJ Beats, and the multilingual group has put down verses in Hindi, Marathi, English, Tamil and Kannada.
The track Wild Wild Women has five rappers spewing bars and celebrating their victorious breakthrough as strong women. Through their new single, they smash the patriarchal constructs of not being able to achieve much as women, and use a collective voice to make a statement about their space in hip hop and music in general. They boldly also share their own perspective on why barriers are being broken everyday, their own journeys, and fighting back, no matter what.
Combining different elements and styles of hip hop, Wild Wild Women is taking on a journey that is blossoming with Indian culture, but expressing it in a more popular music medium to spread a message. As an independent and extremely driven force in Indian hip hop, they’ve been one of the fastest rising collectives to nurture the community aspect of the local hip hop scene, and help grow and build that community through the Rebel Women cyphers, different collaborative performances with female artists, pad distribution and hygiene awareness drives, and more.
The music video was shot at Covelong Classic in Chennai, India in August 2023, during Wild Wild Women's performance, and a few hang sessions.
Wild Wild Women consists of six female rappers along with a B-girl who got together in late 2020 after two of them (Krantinaari and HashtagPreeti) initiated bringing a group of girls together, and named themselves Wild Wild Women. The group was also founded on the ideology of encouraging more women to work together and see the diversity in our Indian hip hop community.
Wild Wild Women hope to create a larger and more sustainable community within just the women in hip hop eventually, featuring artists beyond their core team and collaborating on projects, be it more dancers, B-girls, graffiti artists, makeup artists, designers, social activists, and much more.
WWW’s debut single I Do It For Hip Hop featured on Canadian TV Series ‘Run the Burbs’, and was aired on US and Canadian television in March 2022. They have featured in international publications such as EURONews, Guardian, Rolling Stone, The National, and many more. They have released other singles such as Uddu Azad and Living Waves. They continue to work on their solo material, brand work, and real life empowerment through awareness, musically and in the field.
