It has been 2 years since we lost the legendary Santoor maestro Padma Vibhushan Pt. Shivkumar Sharma. For us at Banyan Tree, being closely associated with Panditji has been a truly humbling and gratifying experience. Memories of his transcendental music, gracious company and warm presence still remain afresh, continuing to guide and steer us on our journey.
Launched last year, on his first death anniversary, Shivji - The Journey Continues… is a specialized musical ode marking his legacy, and undeniable influence over the world of Indian Classical Music.
This is designed as an annual celebration of his life, music and towering presence amid the community of musicians and music-lovers, not just from India, but across the world.
Keeping with which, the second edition of the programme this year features two powerful presentations with both Indian and international musicians, also showcasing an unique instrument belonging to the Santoor family from international shores:
This year the show features, Turkish musician Ahmet Baran on the Qanoon, Rahul Sharma (Santoor) - Indian Classical repertoire followed by fusion with Koh Mr. Saxman (Saxophone) from Thailand. These musicians are maestros in their own right, representing diverse musical sensibilities, strongly rooted in traditions which took shape over generations. Together, they shall present a beautiful union of global sounds – a fitting tribute to the memory of the Master.
