Baporiyu is Gujarati for an afternoon siesta, but it can also mean an afternoon fiesta. Wondering what it actually is?

Baporiyu, is the latest viral sensation from B Series, that celebrates this playful concept with a wink. This catchy earworm has been composed by a mysterious and anonymous music director, who cannot be named.

Featuring well-known faces like Aditi Mittal and Partha Akerkar, the video is expertly choreographed and encourages everyone young and old, modern and traditional, straight or LGBTQ—to indulge in Baporiyu.

The project is written and produced by adwoman Bharati Shankaran Hemmady, of the "Daag Dhoondte Reh Jaoge” fame. “Be it a lonely housewife with a cheating husband or a ‘maushi’ in a nine-yard saree, everyone deserves to party in the afternoon.” she says.

The idea for Baporiyu came to Bharati while she was holidaying with her husband Gautam Hemmandy, who suggested she explore this naughty topic. Initially, she had planned to create a Hindi song dance sequence, but the concept evolved into something more inclusive and celebratory. India’s no 1 trade analyst announced that this is one of the quirkiest video he has seen in a long time.

The director of the video is her dear friend Manish Pandya, who she says, is the wonderful mixture of total calm, efficiency and fun. He was, as always, a delight to work with. We were wondering if we’d be able to wrap it up in a day. He wrapped it up well before the shift ended with a lot of extra shots. “Manish and I plan on doing a lot more music videos. Muncher Wadia, a fellow adman and filmmaker helped us throughout with his very valuable suggestions”.

The music video of the song Baporiyu is a naughty rendezvous from 12 to 4.52. Immerse yourself in the lively beats of this peppy song sung by Zac Singh, written and produced by Bharati Shankaran Hemmady. The video is an exhilarating visual and musical experience.

Released on Valentine's Day this year, the song has crossed over 80,000 views and counting. The song is an absolute mood lifter, bringing pure happiness, while also very hilarious. The energy is infectious and you can't help but smile throughout to its catchy lyrics and peppy beats. It is a burst of joy that will leave you wanting to hit the dance floor with your partner for some much needed workout.

Bharati has also launched a hookstep challenge on Instagram, offering assured gifts. Participants who upload #baporiyu reels will receive a badge of honour on Fydback.com, a peer-to-peer review platform. (Maybe the next social media sensation?)  

Bharati Shankaran Hemmady grew up in Rajasthan and has been based in Mumbai since 1994, with a two year stint in Dubai. In addition to ad copy, she has written many web show pitch decks, feature – length screenplays, short films and a ton of lyrics. She has worked as a copywriter and creative director for top agencies like Lintas and Leo Burnett and loves writing lyrics in Hindi, English and Hinglish.
