A song dedicated to the loving memory of our children: Shekhar Krishnamoorty

Singer Shekhar Krishnamoorty pays tribute in song to his children Unnati and Ujjwal two beautiful souls who he lost in the Uphaar cinema fire tragedy in Delhi on 13th June 1997.  He dedicates the song Tanhaa Tanhaa to the loving memory of his children with a touching  ballad, lyrics that tug at your heartstrings.

The song was released on all the digital streaming platforms on 2nd August, simultaneously the music video was also released on YouTube channel. “The month of August has a special place in our life” says Krishnamoorty, “It was in this month that both Unnati (30th August 1979) and Ujjwal (13th August 1983), came into our lives bringing with them lot of happiness and joy. Although they spent very little time with us but they filled our lives with love, happiness and memorable moments which we cherish even today. These memories have helped us to continue with our endeavor to seek justice for them from our Criminal Justice System.

Along with his wife Neelam, they have authored a book “Trial By Fire” published by Penguin. The book was adapted into web series in January 2023 which is currently streaming on Netflix by the same name.

Shekhar played an active part in music prior to 1997. He was a contracted artist of Magnasound and also recorded a few albums in various genres  from pop, devotional and  love songs. “But after losing Unnati and Ujjwal in the Uphaar fire tragedy I could not continue with music for few years. However, since music gave me solace I continued with riyaz. Music helped me in coping with depression and loneliness” he recalls.

The music video is conceptualized by Neelam and the story board has also been written by her. The music video has been shot in Himachal Pradesh at three locations. Grand View Resorts Jamta, located on the hills of Jamta heights, Jaitak Fort situated at Jaitak hills and Renuka Lake 672 m above the sea level. It is the largest lake in Himachal Pradesh.

The music video was also shot at Supreme Court of India and “Smriti Upavan” a memorial built in the memory of 59 victims who lost their precious lives in the Uphaar Cinema fire. It is situated at Green Park Extension, New Delhi opposite Uphaar Cinema.

The song is composed by Ms Subha Mudgal, the soulful lyrics are penned by Praveen Saxena and the music is directed by Amjad Khan. “The song focuses on loneliness, struggle and the trauma that we are undergoing after the loss of our loving children. Instruments such as flute, esraj, khanjeera, tabla and guitar gives this track a mellow vibe” adds Krishnamoory.

“It’s an emotional song where music touches emotionally where words alone cannot. I believe this song will reach my children wherever they are” he signs off.

We pray that the souls of Unnati and Ujjwal may Rest In Peace.
