Indie music is truly well, beyond alive, and kicking in with choices. Music veteran Osi Gomango is the latest entrant with his single debut, Only You, which he launched digitally on 12^th September, 2024.

It is a personal memoir of a musical journey that began for him when he was 11 years old. Regarding the single, Osi admits, “I talk about how my life could’ve taken any route, but I was smitten by music” and, with it, “this song is my attempt at incorporating the influences of various genres of music (that) I had the privilege of consuming (while) growing up”.

And, on listening to Only You, those “influences” clearly showas the track is clearly promising, a return to popular music roots as a lean, funk-inflected rock and roll single. And even if Osi is not bothered about breaking new ground, there is no denying that the craftsmanship on Only You appears disarming, refreshingly unpretentious, and all the better for it, thanks to a band backed by guitarist, keyboard programmer, and co-arranger Sumith Ramachandran, drummer Liben Tom, and lead vocalist Tony Das supported by Nina and Dan on backing vocals. While Osi has written the song, produced, and arranged it, he has also played acoustic guitar and bass on it. On the technical side, Osi’s team consists of recording engineerLeslie Charles, mix and mastering engineer Blake Eiseman, and was recorded at Stained Class Production, Bengaluru.

For those not aware of Osi Gomango’s antecedents, he has been one of the more prolific bass players in the country, being a founding member of popular Kolkata-based rock/pop band Krosswindz, before stepping out in 2014 to pursue a solo musical careerby moving to Bengaluru.Osi has also played as a session musician with many artists, including for Aabha Hanjura’s Sufistication.
