Thiyam James, who goes by the moniker of Yelhomie (derived from the word Yelhoumee, meaning  indigenous people), is a rapper from the Manipur, Northeast India. Conscious rap being his preference, Yelhomie represents the eastside of India in his raps and acts as an outlet for the voiceless. He has released many singles and EPs wherein he touches many topics from discrimination to errors of the government and out of which some are sensitive to the general public. 

His release Is India My Home?, speaks about the proxy war that's been going on in Manipur for the past 15 months and the negligence of the government and the public eye. Don't mistake, it's not only conscious rap he is fluent in, Yelhomie makes some serious party joints that you wouldn't want to miss bopping your head to. What's next from Yelhomie is the elevation of English Rap in India.

His new song Naava SZN makes an impression at the very first listen. “How I processed Naava Szn was simple yet it impacted towards me on a personal level” says Yelhomie, while adding, “I wrote it and processed it while waiting for my mom at the clinic. It came as an urge to me that I should put out something in August despite the many unreleased tracks that I have in deck. That's when I reached out to Yugi for this one beat from his beat store that I found suitable with the emotion that was flowing. The song to me points as an introduction to what the world is about to witness in Yelhomie.

Yelhomie says that Naava Szn is the unfiltered emotion that he felt at the very moment he realized he was ready for everything. “It's kind of challenging for us being an independent artist and again to be in the eastside where there are less opportunities, and we want to be heard like any rapper that's doing good in the scene. We want our music televised, heard, talked about and we are hungry for it. The emotion that I had while writing Naava Szn, the hunger, the determination, the diligence of my work, the raw energy can be seen vividly between the lines of the song”.
