In celebrating this year’s Valentine’s Day, Bengaluru-based Osi Gomango independently releases Happy Song across digital platforms, a lovely,light-grooving, pop-soul ditty.
“As the name suggests,” explains Osi, “this song consists of a bunch of memories of real life experiences that have lent themselves in a song format” and hence, among other things, he writes about “long rides”, “blue skies”, and “two hearts”.
As the lead singer, the soulful voice of Tony Das supports the skilled song writing of Osi, who plays bass and acoustic guitar. Happy Days is sharply produced, relying heavily on keyboards (courtesy Sumith Ramachandran, who also doubles up on guitar), the drumming of Liben Tom, thegospel-tinged harmoniesarranged by Kezia, who also handles backing vocals with Jemimah and Satvik and, of course, overseen by Osi Gomango who had Happy Song recorded and mastered by Paul Daniel at Bengaluru’s Virtual Tapes Productions.
For those not aware of Osi Gomango’s antecedents, he has been one of the more prolific bass players in the country, being a founding member of popular Kolkata-based rock/pop band Krosswindz, before stepping out in 2014 to pursue a solo musical career.Osicontinues playing as a session musicianfor several establishedartists.
As a foot (musical) note, for someone who grew up to the sounds from the glory days of Berry Gordy's Detroit empire that went by the name of Motown, Happy Song is a fine listen indeed.
