Music Fest at Gateway of India

The Maharashtra Government's most sought after music fest - Mumbai Saptaranga kicks off at the Gateway of India between 3rd and 5th January 2014. The fest is organised to spread harmony post 26/11 terror attack on the city. 

A galaxy of musical greats will be performing at this fest, which includes Kishori Amonkar, Selvaganesh, U Srinivas, Sivamani, Shankar Mahadevan, Roop Kumar Rathod, Salim Suleiman, Hairharan..to name a few. 

Amidst this galaxy of legends, 20-year-old Reewa Rathod, lyricist, singer, composer is the only young, upcoming artist to perform her own songs (global music) on January 4.  Along with her own pop compositions, Carnatic Krithi, Reewa will also perform some of he favorite Yanni compositions on piano. Reewa has also got her first intentional break as a singer and composer  in 'traces of Sandalwood' starring Nandita Das.  

Reewa is the daughter of music duo Roop Kumar and Sunali Rathod. 

About Reewa Rathod

The soul of Indian Music lies in passing one's knowledge of music down the generations. Taking a plunge into the deep sea of countless pioneers of music is a vocalist, lyricist, music composer and pianist Reewa, the lovely daughter of the much-acclaimed musical duo Sunali and Roopkumar Rathod. Reewa gave her first public recital in honour of her late grandfather Shri Pt Chaturbhuj Rathod at the tender age of 4 when she sang the famous Meera bhajan Paayo Ji Maine . Reewa Rathod, made her singing debut at a concert organised by her doting parents at Mumbai's Bandstand Amphitheatre at the beginning of the year.

The legacy of music runs through four generations of musicians. Her grandfather, the late Pt. Chaturbhuj Rathod was a renowned ‘Dhrupad Dhamar’ vocalist of the Aditya Gharana of Jamnagar, while her great grandmother Champabai Rathod was a folk singer from Rajasthan. Her uncle Sri Shravan Rathod is a well- known music director in the Indian Film Industry. Reewa’s maternal grandfather, the Late Smt. Leena Sheth was a classical dancer and painter of repute. With such a strong musical background it was only a matter of time before Reewa would come forward to share her innate talent with the world.

Reewa is extremely fortunate and blessed to have Gurus, Padmabhusan Pt. Rajan Mishra and Pt. Sajan Mishra under whose able tutelage she is learning the nuances of Hindustani Classical Music. She has learnt western classical Piano under the nationally acclaimed teacher the Late Ms. Shanti Seldon. Her training in Carnatic vocal music has been under the expert guidance of the renowned Guru Smt. Balamani Iyer and Smt. Prasanna Warrier. She idolizes her father and Guru Pt. Rajan Mishra. She is inspired by Yanni, Kishore Kumar, Seal and Mariah Carey.  

Reewa bagged her first international break as a composer and singer in ‘Traces of Sandalwood’, a Spanish English movie starring leading actor Nandita Das. Reewa is a fantastic live performer who lives for the high of being on stage and is most alive in front of a crowd, synonymous to this Reewa will be the youngest artist to perform in the upcoming ‘Mumbai Saptarang 2014’ - a 3 day music fest organised by the Maharashtra government at the Gateway of India between January 3-5, 2014 to spread harmony post 26/11 terror attacks.

Music is her first passion but there is more than what meets the eye. She is also passionate about animals. A keen horse rider, she has taken in the national equestrian championship of dressage. She desires to build a school of music for the under privileged.
