The True School of Music, Mumbai, India’s First Comprehensive Institute of Contemporary Music Opens its doors.

The True School of Music is India’s first, comprehensive professional institute of contemporary music that prepares and empowers students for a career in music through best-in-class teaching and training methods from around the globe, within the framework of the Indian socio-cultural and economic context.

With international faculty from Manhattan School of Music, New York City for its professional program, international DJs, Sound engineering and music production courses authored by The Academy of Contemporary Music, UK., The True School of Music aims to discover, educate and empower those in the realm of music by equipping them with the precise skills necessary to achieve excellence in musical expression and their careers, in a state-of-the-art environment that nurtures a symbiotic community

Here students will learn western and Indian instruments, music production, composition, sound engineering and DJing, through full and part-time courses. True School has some of the world’s leading professional tutors, state-of-the-art music facilities, current experience and the industry connections to be able to succeed in this space.

The True School of Music, scheduled to begin its first term from mid-September has opened its admissions for The Professional and Foundation Schools.

The Professional School will prepare students for all facets of the pro music business, and actual work and musical situations that they might encounter as professionals in the Indian music industry. They will learn a broad array of musical styles and genres ranging across rock, pop, funk, Latin, electronic dance music, jazz and blues as well as sound engineering and production. The School will teach students five music instruments (guitar, drums, keyboards, bass and vocals), as well as DJing, music production and sound engineering. A key emphasis will be to provide an ensemble-based education.

The fees for the Professional School is Rs. 80,000 plus taxes per module, each lasting for 11 weeks. For a Certificate program, students will require 7 to 12 modules depending on their choice of program. Admissions for the first term of the Professional School will close on August 31, 2013.

For those who desire to learn an instrument, The Foundation School is the place to come to. The program is based on the Trinity College of Music, London’s ground-breaking Rock and Pop 8-grade program, preceded by an Initial course. Students will be trained to take the Trinity College prescribed exams to advance their respective grades. The Foundation School has 2 departments - Western music, where students can choose from guitar, bass, drums, vocals and keyboards; Indian Classical Music where students can choose from sitar, tabla, harmonium, flute and vocals.

“Even The Foundation School students will have to form a band and perform live at our auditorium,” says Ashutosh Phatak, Co-Founder & Sr. Managing Director, underpinning the thread of ensemble based education running seamlessly through the schools.

Even those who do not wish to seriously pursue a music education, can become members of the school to hang out, take in the vibrant atmosphere, watch great music videos, instructional videos, concerts and films as well as take in some special gigs played by some of the best musicians in the game.

The fees for The Foundation School program is Rs. 6,000 per month plus taxes that will provide 4 lessons, 2 band rehearsal sessions, a performance session with a coach plus full access to the facility and library and select access to gigs, master classes and film screenings. Students can also choose to enrol in a fast track program where they get 8 lessons, 2 band rehearsal sessions, and a performance session with a coach plus all the other benefits mentioned above for Rs. 10,000 a month.

The facility will contain separate classrooms for theory and practical and rehearsal rooms. Individual customized workstations will be provided for DJ and Music Production Students. Additionally, the school will have a dedicated guitar, bass, drums and piano rooms for students. They will also have individual practice rooms for one-on-one sessions with their instructors.
