In an upcoming weekly auction, StoryLTD.com will be offering Bollywood movie buffs a chance to bid on a wide selection of Bollywood Memorabilia, featuring 55 lots ranging from vintage film posters, lobby cards, publicity stills and much more.
’Baadshahs of Bollywood’, a 24-hour no-reserve online auction, begins on July 28 at 8:00 p.m. IST on www.storyltd.com. From Bollywood's quintessential angry young man, Amitabh Bachchan, to Raj Kapoor and his classic romantic expressions Indian cinema’s most “Yaadgaar” heroes and villains come together in this one-of–a-kind sale.
Posters as a means of film publicity first came into vogue in the early 1920s, and rapidly developed into an art form. The quirky colours and retro typography are iconic vestiges of the yesteryears of Indian cinema. Once painted and stuck on the walls outside cinema theatres and the alleys out back, these kitsch posters are now considered as prized vintage collectibles.
Hindi film director Rohan Sippy, of Bluffmaster! and Dum Maaro Dum fame, says: “We are inundated with millions of images today, most of them just a click away. So it is hard to imagine just how powerful a single image—that of the film poster—could be, for several decades all over this country. Great film posters and film art are so evocative. They instantly give you a connection to who you were when you saw that film, whether you tried to imitate Dev Anand’s infectious style as a kid, or channeling the brooding anger of an Amitabh Bachchan in your teens. They are a passport to your memories and your imagination. I’m delighted to see that StoryLTD.com continues to curate this valuable form, which I’m sure will help in its preservation—both physically, and in our mind’s eye.”
Definitely a collector’s bargain
