Hindi cinema is infamous for its semi-fictionalized depiction of events that happen in our daily lives. We feel our bellies going warm and fuzzy after listening to a romantic song. We also feel regret and mistrust after listening to a track which reminds us of a love story gone downhill. Babuji Dheere Chalna from the ‘Aar Paar’ (1950) is one of those songs.
Taking into perspective that there is more to backstabbing (personal, corporate, political, etc.) in this day and age than it was in the era gone by, Saregama has done a true to the lyrics video reinterpretation of a Guru Dutt classic. The video stands testament to the new age approach of confrontation of truth, which is far less sugar coated than it was when the song first came out.
Originally composed by the legendary O.P. Nayyar and sung by Geeta Dutt, this jazz infused groove tune is rearranged by Sumit Ramachandra and sung by Anjum Katyal.
Love, lust and betrayal…. All in a day’s work.
