A diva divine with a voice sublime

Devyani Majumdar is talent exemplified. A singer with beauty and brains to match. Although a resident of Thane, near Mumbai, she is actually a total Mumbaite at heart, and travels daily to Andheri part of suburban Mumbai to attend meetings, sittings and recordings and has rented a studio apartment only for this purpose. She loves the ambience and hustle bustle of the city, and has met many a celeb and music personality right here itself.

She is a strong willed person with an unending passion for music and a never-say-die attitude. She recalls giving several on-stage performances during school and college days and learnt Atul Prasadi and Rajnikanta songs from Sri Suprakash Chaki in Kolkata.

Starting her musical training at the tender age of 4 under the tutelage of Srimati Chinmoyee Mukherjeea disciple of Sri Chinmoy Lahiri of Kirana Gharana, she later acquired Sangeet Prabhakar; a senior diploma from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad with distinction, and also learnt Nazrul Geeti from Smt Purabi Dutta in Kolkata.

Moving to Mumbai, made her further take her classical training from Sri Gautam Mukherjee, which opened many doors for performing professionally all over Mumbai. She has judged several music competitions during college festivals in colleges of Mumbai and also competitions held by Ram Krishna Mission. Her biggest plus point is that she can sing any genre of music with equal élan, be it geet or ghazal or a contemporary Bollywood song.

Recently Devyani was interviewed by CVO channel (A Hinduja enterprise), and the broadcast had received great applaud. Two of her proudest achievements were the release of a fusion ghazal album named 'Jazbaa' with Ustad Rashid Khan, which has lyrics by Sri Madan Pal / Haider Najmi and is composed by Prithvi Gandharva, an up and coming music composer of the new generation. The other was an album of Krishna Bhajans with Bhajan samrat Anup Jalota.

Besides giving several solo performances on the occasion of Krishna Janmashthami at ISKON auditorium recently, Durga Utsav in Thane and various Rotary and Lions Clubs in Mumbai, she was recently approached by the iconic INSYNC music channel for a Ghazal and Bhajan show titled "India Stage “.

While she is currently working with Mr Javed Ali; famous playback singer of 'Jodha Akbar' fame for a romantic album, she has many singles also her up her sleeve, which includes a patriotic single which is to be released in August 2016.

Life is a constant buzz as she works from one project to another and zealously plods towards a much desired space in stardom as well as creative satisfaction.Never looking back is another adage she follows religiously. No wonder her eyes sparkle with confidence, and her crystal clear voice resounds constantly in the studio with harmonium and tabla accompaniment.
