As a part of their continuous efforts of enhancing technology, Whistling Woods International (WWI) has yet again launched a new and revolutionary sound technology, Auro 3D 11.1 here at the CILECT-CAPA conference held at the campus. Wilfried Van Baelen, the inventor of this technology demonstrated and launched this technology at the WWI auditorium. This technology will be used by the students of Whistling Woods International hereon, making WWI the first institute in the country to have this mechanism.
With sound reproduction closest to natural hearing, Auro 3D 11.1 aims at giving the audience immersive experience, be it through movies, games, broadcast or music. The technology produces maximum immersive sound through minimum speakers and amplifiers to ensure there is no change in workflow or extra hardware required. Also, this is the only sound technology in the world that is DCI compliant for ease in distribution.
Speaking on the occasion, MeghnaGhaiPuri, President, WWI said, “We are honoured to have Wilfried (Van Baelen) inaugurate the Auro 3D 11.1 sound set-up at our campus. This will take our institute’s sound technology to the next level and help students prepare better for the industry. It was the perfect setting to launch this set-up as we hosted India’s first ever CILECT-CAPA conference.”
This launch was a part of the international CILECT-CAPA conference being held for the first time in India. The topic of this year’s conference was “Sound and Silence in Cinema”. The focus of the conference is to bring artists from across the globe on a common platform and discuss the importance of music and sound for effective storytelling. The speakers include SubhashGhai, ResulPookutty (Academy Award winning sound designer), Wilfried Van Baelen (CEO Auro Technologies, CEO Galaxy Studios), Dee Wood (Internationally acclaimed multi instrumentalist, composer, producer and educator), Dr.Sangeeta Shankar (Renowned Indian violinist), Pawan Benjamin (saxophonist &bansuri artist), Jake Charkey (multi-faceted super singer, featured in MTV coke studio), and Andrew Belletty (Indian sound designer and recordist) among others.
Wilfried van Baelen, CEO, Auro Technologies said, “Auro 11.1 incorporates a unique height and overhead channel which allow for natural lifelike sound with sound waves coming from every direction, just like they do in real life. To experience this sound, it is essential to have correct set-up, which Whistling Woods International has installed. In fact, I was amazed to see the magnitude and state-of-the-art facilities available at the institute.”
Auro 11.1 will truly transform the way you experience a movie in a cinema theatre. Auro 11.1 has been said to be become the new standard. Movies such as The Amazing Spider Man and Rise of the Guardians have incorporated the State-Of-The Art Sound Mix by Barco - Auro 11.1.
Addressing the audience, ResulPookutty, Award-winning sound designer, said, “To capture the audience’s attention and involve them in the film, sound needs to be closest to natural. This can be achieved through native sound recordings, a method I have used in many movies including Slumdog Millionaire. Auro 3D as a technology helps in keeping sound close to natural and will help in the technical aspect of sound recording as well as cinema viewing experience. With its installation in the country’s largest film school, we hope to see Auro 3D 11.1 sound technology in Indian movies very soon.”
