Recently in Mumbai, at the Indian Cancer Society, Parel, a session for the cancer survivors was conducted by the Artscape team.
The session consisted of some Dance and Movement therapy which included making movements to different kinds of music, to exercise the body, energize the brain and to release emotions. Such sessions are particularly designed for participants to connect with their inner selves through dance and movement. Aishani Shah, a Dance-Movement therapist conducted the session having each individual extremely involved in each of the activities whole heartedly. The project is initiated by Kamalika Guha Thakurta, founder and artistic director at Artscape.
The main objective of having these sessions and this noble initiative is to use art forms as a tool to develop individuality, communication and social skills. It aims to provide individuals a great quality of life for people of all ages with a range of needs and challenges.Artscape aims to encourage performing art forms as an alternative approach to recovery, healing and psychological rehabilitation of any kind of physical or emotional trauma. Regular Music and Meditation Sessions are held at Cancer Rehabilitation Homes like ACTREC, St Judes and Nana PalkarSmritiSamiti. These Sessions are targeted at the patients as well as the Caregivers with the aim to promote physical and emotional well-being.
Renowned Indian television actress and the Founder and Artistic Director of the Srijon Foundation Mrs. Kamalika Guha Thakurta, has launched Artscape, an initiative to use her knowledge on music and dance as a form of therapy.
Under the able guidance of Mrs. Kamalika Guha Thakurta, who is trained in Indian Classical Dance and Music and has been known for her absolute excellence as an actor in the Indian television industry. The main objective of this noble initiative is to use art forms as a tool to develop individuality, communication and social skills. It aims to provide individuals a great quality of life for people of all ages with a range of needs and challenges.
Sharing her thoughts on the launch of this foundation, she said, "The idea behind ARTSCAPE is to use the Performing Art Forms as an alternative approach to recovery, healing and psychological rehabilitation of survivors of any kind of trauma – physical or emotional.”
