A promising singer to look out for

She started singing on the radio stations during the young age of six, gave her first stage performance at eight and leant classical music at ten. We are talking about Shashaa Tirupati, the Indo-Canadian singer who is already a phenomenon in the film industries down South and now she is making her mark in Bollywood. Popularly known as the Humma Humma girl, Shashaa is a multilingual playback singer, songwriter and voice over artist.

Music was in the veins of Shashaa who learnt classical singing from Late Mrs. Kamala Bose and Girija Devi. She became the first Red FM Idol, a talent hunt held by one of Vancouver's leading radio channels, in 2005. She went on to judge the same competition in July 2016. An MBA in Marketing Shashaa is pursuing her second Masters from the Symbiosis College, Pune. Shashaa made her debut in Bollywood as playback singer in 2010 film ‘Bumm Bumm Bole’. In the past several years Shashaa has sung in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, Arabic and English languages.

The young singer who sang in ‘Mohanjodaro’ and ‘Sarabjit’ was noticed by musical legend A R Rahman during Coke Studio Season 3. This was a turning point in her life. After that there has been no looking back. Shashaa sang for A R Rahman in films like ‘Kochadaiiyaan’, ‘Kaaviyathalaivan’, ‘OK Kanmani’ and many more. Not only films, Shashaa also an important part of Rahman’s group which performs all over the world.

Apart from this, Shashaa has also been featured in MTV Unplugged Season 4 with music director Mithoon and playback singer Mohammad Irfan. She not only sings but also plays the African instrument, the Kazoo besides playing the classical guitar and harmonium.

The multi-talented singer won the Mirchi Music Award for Best Upcoming Female Singer 2015 (Aye Mr. Minor) and Best Female Playback singer at Vikatan Awards for Naane Varugiren song.

When it comes to humanitarian efforts, Shashaa is extremely active with CANFAR - The Canadian Foundation of AIDS Research, for which she organized several fundraisers. She keeps on performing at charitable events abroad for the causes which are close to her heart.

As she proves her mantle in Indian music industry, Shashaa seems to be enjoying each and every bit of her musical journey.
