Swarathma’s latest song talks about parental pressure on teens

If you’ve ever heard your parents compare your academic performance with that of your Uncle ke Bachhe, then Swarathma’s new music video Beta Sweater Pehno will strike a chord with you.

Bangalore based Indian folk-rock band, Swarathma, joins Mirinda in their movement to Release the Pressure. Mirinda’s latest campaign, ‘No More Pressurepanti, Only Pagalpanti’, continues to highlight the pressure faced by students during examinations. Swarathma’s newly released song and video is a satirical take on the pressure of parental expectation on teenagers and the loneliness and isolation that they go through in such situations.

The music video features the band members in school uniform going through the motions of school life with comic melancholy. Shot in Mysore, the video features the band members playing the role of students, where the school is used as a metaphor for the institutional pressure that teens go through.

Vocalist Vasu Dixit who is also the Director of the film says, “We realize that parents always want the best for their teenager. But in the process, they end up putting undue pressure on them to do and be things that may sometimes be unfair. While the music video will take many of the viewers back to school days, we hope it will make parents and teens talk to each other more openly regarding this issue.”

The lyrics of the song start with ‘Beta Sweater Pehno, Nahi Toh Lagegi Sardi. Yeh Seekho, Vo Bhi Seekho, Daalo School Ki Ghanti. Tune Yeh Kaise Socha, Apni Mann Ki Gaayega, Hum Jo Bole Who Tu Karle Varna Kuch Na Ho Payega!’
