Often called the 'man with the golden voice', he is regarded as the finest Indian artiste in the field of western popular music. A bass baritone, who sings just as easily in the tenor range, Gary Lawyer is equally comfortable with every genre of music - be it rock, pop, jazz, country or folk.
A classically trained voice, Gary began his singing career in New York during his stay there in the 80's, singing at showcase theatres and nightclubs to a tremendous response. Just as he started gaining recognition as a singer / composer, personal circumstances forced him to return to India.
Back home despite the focus on a city plagued with newspapers covering only politics, Bollywood and gossip. Lawyer released a couple albums on unwilling record labels who were scared to release English albums. So you had his first album - 'This Cannot Wait', 'High Standards', the most popular ' The Other Side of Dawn' that catapulted Gary to the heights of stardom and made him a household name followed by 'Arrow in the Dust' and ‘Unbelong’.
Years later he brought out a ‘Best of’ consisting of 16 of his finest collection that made him what he was. So you have the unforgettable Nights on Fire, The Other side of Dawn Indian Summer, to the loud and rocky She’s all mine all songs packed with amazing guitar riffs. There’s also Riding something Gary loves doing in his pastime. There’s a softer side to Lawyer as he takes on cupid in Stars become you and Silence of the night. Gary also sings for a worthy cause in Save the Tiger, which is also the only new track on the album.
If you have followed the ageing rocker, you should listen to this album. The collection is presently not available online, but do check out the music downloads for the super hits.
