Intoxication – Shaggy (Universal Music) Rs. 395/

The Boombastic Jamaican brings his trademark heavy pop-beat formula of dancehall music in a new album. His style is still intact as he embarks on mesmerizing the girls with his 8th offering to date. The syncopated beats and reggae touch make you swing your hips to the punchy music from the very first bar.

Going into all 17 tracks would certainly be intoxicating, but the main standouts would be Bonafide Girl featuring Rik Rok and Tony Gold that has a very catchy chorus line. The same goes for Those Days which is an interpolation of the 60s classic by Gene Raskin that is packed with good vocals.

Shaggy brings in artists like Rayvon, Mischieve, and Nasha on board which add to the pumpy rhythms. Though lyrically he speaks about praising the Most High in Mad Mad, World (feat. guests artists like Sizzia Kalonji and Collie Buddz) where he speaks on the state of the world today, on. Church Heathen he came in for a lot of controversy last year. Complete with pipe organ in the background, a heavy bassline, the lyrics take on the church exposing its hypocrisy. He talks about Sister Gwen a nun who is in a relationship. Infact this is the only song where the lyrics are missing. on the inlay card. Akon has been seen on plenty collaborations and it so it was not surprising to see his presence here helping out on the well orchestrated What’s Love. Thus what you have is a mix of Shaggy’s sound and Akon’s musical influences. All about love is a replica sound of Bob Marley style with loud vocals and backing horn section. Fillers, namely the bonus tracks Reggae Vibes and Feel the Rush continue the dance sound on this album.

Lyrics included.
