Coming Home – Lionel Richie (Universal Music) Rs. 395/-

There can be no doubt that singer/songwriter and producer Lionel Richie is a musical legend who needs no introduction. A five time Grammy winner, six American Music awards and one Academy Award for Best Original Song in a motion picture among many others, Richie makes his comeback after three years, leaving nothing much for his fans to sing about.

This album his eighth, has a galaxy of collaborators ranging from Jermaine Dupri, Raphael Saadiq, Dallas Austin and Sean Garrett, and features nine songs written and co-written by Richie. A thumbs up however should be given for the few standouts like the extremely neat I call it love with the same effect seen in Out of my Head. Both songs show Richie in his earlier days flavor minus all the collaborators. I Love you with its haunting vocals have captivating lyrics, bold and no nonsense. There’s also Reason to believe and I apologize again with good lyrics that are a standout. These are the few savers to this album.

Hot beats abound, especially on the dancefloor-ready Up All Night to Why, but the overall vibe is pure Lionel, from the Commodores-esque What You Are to the Penny Lover style Coming Home. The album debuted at number six on the Billboard 200 becoming his biggest hit album since the American singer’s 1986 super album ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’

If 2004's ‘Just For You’ was dominated by classy but predictable ballads, ‘Coming Home’ (2006) that has 11 tracks, represents Mr. Richie as the trailblazing musical titan generations of fans fell in love by. Turn the volume and enjoy this really great piece of work by Richie.

Includes Lyrics.
