Paul McCartney’s Beatle tag would be one reason to make you buy this album, but rather it’s his sheer versatility and vocals that would compel you to pick this album. 13 tracks in a little over half hour duration and McCartney will leave you satisfied..
On the lines of his Fab Four days, you have almost half of the songs that are just over 2 minutes, but contain some good lyrics, loud vocals and invigorating instrumentation that speak volumes. The first two tracks, Dance Tonight and Ever Present Past, are two of the best songs Paul has written in his solo career. At a time when he should retire, McCartney takes a rocky edge in the impressive House of Wax, goes straightforward pop in Gratitude and Only Mama Knows and goes nostalgic in Mr. Bellamy, That was me, Vintage clothes, going sentimental in the super balladic love song See Your Sunshine.
Recorded when he was 64, the age he sang about so many years earlier, Paul McCartney alludes to his age on both the title of this album and its cover and in some of the lyrics. Taking that into account, one may expect the album to be reflective and quiet. Actually it is quite refreshingly upbeat.
This is arguably the best Paul McCartney album since ‘Ram’. Recorded at Abbey Road in 2007, It is full of wistful, nostalgic songs, as Paul looks back at his childhood and early life.
You surely would love to listen to the album again and again, so tune it and enjoy Beatlemania at its best.
