Highlights from The Lion King – The London Theatre Orchestra (Times Music)

The movie was a super hit at the box office, while the soundtrack met the same status.

Now years later, The London Theatre Orchestra and Cast present highlights of this blockbuster movie for your listening pleasure. The album features the very best singers and players performing the soundtrack bringing you a hypnotic trip back to the stage.

Songs made famous by Elton John like Circle of Life, Can you feel the love tonight and other songs like Grasslands Chant, He Lives in You, I just can’t wait to be King, Hakuna Matata, ‘The Lion sleeps tonight and a host of others are all here.

Featuring the music of Elton John and the lyrics of Tim Rice, The Lion King became a huge film smash for the Disney company in 1994, taking nearly $800 million in worldwide rentals. Three years after the film opened, it was turned into an equally successful stage musical, winning six Tony awards in 1997.

As for the story, Simba's father King Mufasa is the lion king and rules the kingdom with wisdom and kindness. The king's younger brother Scar is jealous of his nephew and his position as heir and so decides to usurp the throne.

Compared to the original sound track from the movie and the West End production of it. However, after listening to few of the songs this music was really interesting. I feel there are some really beautiful songs, and really enjoyed listening to it. It is not the West End production (as clearly stated) but the London Theatre Orchestra and Cast have done a brilliant recreation of the films sound track.

A must for your collection, as these are very good singers and musicians singing and playing very good arrangements.
