After the Spice Girls promoted Girl Power, about 10 years later you had five busty girls giving you a run for your money going by the name Pussycat Dolls. Nicole Scherzinger, Melody Thornton the two main lead singers, have the support of vocalist Kimberly Wyatt, Ashley Roberts and Jessica Sutta.
Their second offering after their self titled debut, the new work is once again a dance heavy album that has electro, hip hop and a pop feel running all around. The girls have taken a veritable who’s who of the production world and brought in Snoop Dogg, Timbaland, R.Kelly, Polow Da Don, Missy Elliot for company on this album.
With 18 tracks the album gets pretty long, but then you also have a slipin of dreamy ballads. But firstly hitting off is the opening When I grow up is a full on punchy dancehall hit which is sure to pull you to the dance floor. Next in line is Bottle Pop (feat. Snopp Dogg) that has a few weird sounds which is definitely not bottle pops. Out of the club uses Auto Tune on certain segments and Happily ever after and Hush, Hush are done in the ballad style. Who’s gonna love you is straight forward pop with a heavy background chorus. The eerie Whatchamacallit is a tongue twister, while a cover of the legendary 60s song Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps originally written by Cuban songwriter Osvald Farres concludes this fairly neat album.
The sound gets a little monotonous as you move on to the end of the album. So its best you programme the ones you really like than rather settle for 18 tracks at one go.
On the lyrics side there’s nothing very much, just fun lyrics that delve on sex, boy girl relationships and the like. Don’t miss the attractive inlay card and poster that has the girls in their finery, strutting in the very basic clothing on bikes and on iron bars. A feast for the eyes and the ears.
