Clarkson is the much adorated 2002 winner of the American Idol contest held in America each year, chosen more for her amazing voice. Clarkson’s debut may ring a bell for her sugary sweet harmonies have a lot of grace, her colorful voice gets close to the shrill. There may not be any great songs, great lyrics, for it’s a simple lovey - dovey album twirling on love.
Among the 12 tracks, which also include two bonus pieces, most of the songs are delicately rendered. The opening Kelly penned tracks The trouble with love is allows her to assume the role of a lover, while her first single and chart topper Miss Independent a perfect up-tempo catchy piece holds you down for more of her music. On her catchy homemade pop ethics, Kelly deftly balances classic pop and balladic songs all the time pondering the impossibility of true love. Dip into pieces such as the high - pitched Low or even the simply admirable What’s Up Lonely.
Clarkson has worked closely with album executive producer and music legend Clive Davis, along with acclaimed producers Rhett Lawrence, (Mariah Carey, Enrique Iglesias), Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds (Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston) and lastly Mathew Wilder (No Doubt). The result is that of some convincing tracks right through showcasing a range of musical styles.
Elsewhere on the album, fellow American Idol finalist Tamyra Gray joins winner Kelly in co - writing a satisfying duet You thought wrong. Infact, Kelly has also written about four tracks on the album including the sadly unimpressive title tracks that fails to take off. But at the end of the album there is some intimate late- night narratives that finish off this first-full length album on a heart felt warm note. For you could chill out on Anytime or even Kelly’s first ever crowning single A moment like this and Before Your Love.
Kelly has come up with a low-key album, which trumpets class, solid substance and suave soloing. Though it may seem dull at times, her music is refulgent and keeps the listener tuned in a good balladic vein. It can be clearly seen that she has ambition as well as talent, but one listen and it can be concluded that her album is memorable, enough to make you want to hear her again.
