String Struck – Purbayan Chatterjee – (Times Music) Rs. 295/-

Classical music lovers are sure to tune into this wondrous album that not only has a classical edge to it but is filled with many musical genres. Purbayan Chatterjee and his ensemble of String struck give a jaw-dropping performance.

‘String Struck’ is a musical album financed by young couple Piyush and Smriti Saraf, both avid lovers of music and was associated with the band right from its conception.

Purbayan Chatterjee, who‘s belongs to a family of patrons of classical music targets the young on this album, the album offers a mix of Jazz, waltz and Indian classical music with a hint of Bollywood.

The album contains a song called Peace of Mind that has a feel of Jazz and blues together. There’s also DWO and Shadowy Lights that are a must hear. Don’t miss the last of the 7 tracks DWO, yet again but given a touch by Taufiq Qureshi.

Infact on one song he has taken the electric guitar and made it sound like the sitar. The result is simply amazing and worth a listen.

The album celebrates the oneness of two. It’s a sound where the acoustic and the digital, where the ancient, where the modern and where the ethnic and the urban, where the esoteric and the virtuosic all complement each other and become one..

With musicians like Shankar Mahadevan, Bickram Ghosh, Taufiq Qureshi, Rakesh Chaurasia playing a part on the album, one thing is sure that Purbayan through this album explores his traditional and the modern side of his music.
