Well, there's almost no chance to expect a reunion of Peter Gabriel-era Genesis. So, with Nad Sylvan on lead vocals, Steve Hackett's Genesis Revisited concerts are the closest to recreate that magic of early Genesis.
And oh man, he did it in style. The show was divided into 2 sets - Set One featured selections from his solo albums, ‘Spectral Mornings’, ‘Defector and At the Edge of Light’. Set two and encore was dedicated to entire ‘Selling England by the Pound’ album and other selections from Genesis. Steve Hackett, as usual, was at his peak form, playing complex textures and solos on his yellow Les Paul, aptly supported by his excellent band. The drum solo of Craig Blundell was terrific. Rob Townshend on sax, flute and keys, Roger King on keyboards, Jonas Reingold on bass and guitar played beautifully, while the vocalist Nad Sylvan perfectly recreated the vocals of great Peter Gabriel.
Highlights of the show were Every Day, The Virgin & the Gypsy, Spectral Mornings, Clocks, Dancing in the Moonlit Knight, Firth of Fifth, The Battle of Epping Forest, The Cinema Show and the encore Watcher of the Skies (from Foxtrot). But, the real magic was created when they played The Musical Box from Nursery Cryme. It was THE moment of glory for the concert and I couldn't be happier. An excellent display of what top notch musicianship and classic British progressive rock could achieve.
