Many would remember this movie more for its brilliant soundtrack and Whitney Houston’s rousing rendition of the Dolly Parton’s classic ballad ‘I will always love you’. Houston also went on to make the soundtrack sell over 37 million copies for hit songs that she contributed to the movie like I Have Nothing, Run to You, I’m Every Woman and others. ‘The Bodyguard’ is a one-star movie with a five-star soundtrack.
Rachel Marron is a highly celebrated musical and cinematic star, who is being stalked by an anonymous stalker and has also been receiving scary threats. She hires a bodyguard Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner) who is known to be a honest and loyal person. He is also an ex-Secret Service agent haunted by his failure to protect Ronald Reagan from John Hinckley’s bullet. The bodyguard goes overboard in protecting Rachel, and also infuriates security personnel around the singer. Not only that, Rachel who is used to getting things her way is not very happy at the turn of events. But her first experience of Frank’s security cordon comes when Rachel makes her appearance at a club to promote her new single. Fans want to see her, hear her, touch her. Mobbed by fans and a few fanatics, she is rescued by Frank who physically takes her to her waiting car, thus saving her from the mob. This close proximity to the singer develops into love and before each know it, it blooms into a steamy affair, none of them had ever expected.
But the stalker is still lurking around and Frank needs to protect her even more than he ever did before. The chemistry between Costner and Houston is electric. Don’t miss the samurai sword scene.
