Shakira – Live In Paris (Sony Music) Rs. 499/-

Absolutely tremendous to see her live, her show is much better than her music videos and that’s what we got to see in Mumbai on 25th March 2007 when the much awaited concert by Columbian singing sensation, Shakira, got underway at the MMRDA grounds in Mumbai.

The 5000-something crowd were immediately mollified when the hip-shaking songstress launched into a song after song from her collection of albums. Soon, she had the crowds chanting her name. I was one of the lucky few to attend this concert and all I can say is I took away a load of memories (Shakira’s belly dancing too) that will remain forever etched in my mind.

Now if you weren’t at the Mumbai concert Shakira’s debut and only show in Mumbai, well then you’d have to settle for her ‘Live In Paris’ DVD of a concert that took place in France in 2011. The set list is largely French in keeping with the city she is playing in, with of course a few Spanish numbers too. The DVD offers multiple angles, with a lot of the time where the camera just stays on her the whole show.

While I am a big fan of Shakira ever since she came on the scene, I love her songs and performances. The whole 100 minutes of this entire performance is intoxicating. With black pants, possibly spandex, and golden top, Shakira looks still young, vigorous, slim and sexy in this 10 year old concert. Her enthusiasm, charisma, style and dance moves are her best work yet.

Some of the highlights include Gypsy that presents interesting dance drama presented by Shakira before the song was being sung, very intricate and passionate dance. The dance gave a narrative to the song and made the song became more meaningful. Nothing Else Matters is an unexpected interpretation by Shakira with the acoustic guitar team, a rock song by Metallica that I love was sung so beautifully. She ends it with Despedida. /La Tortura was sung without Alejandro Sanz her partner in the main song. There’s also the high energy She Wolf, Whenever Wherever. On Whenever Wherever four lucky girls are plucked from the audience to shake their booty with Shakira....no surprise as to who is the best. They carefully selected the ending songs which are Hips don't lie and then Waka Waka the latter she also sang towards her end of her Mumbai concert. Waka waka was delivered with a very powerful message, effort for delivering Africa to a better future. The confetti was exploding as the end neared.

This one's a fun concert DVD, well worth getting. Shakira does a great job on this concert that will surely be loved by everyone. A breath of fresh air, with the queen of Latin pop/rock singing and dancing her heart out for the audience.

The Bonus material includes Shakira in Rehearsal, Shakira in Paris – Making of the DVD, Shakira in a very funny – The Donkey Race and when Shakira goes golfing.
