Michael Jackson: The One is a persuasive summary of the Gloved One's career highlights. Jackson appears only in old clips, but the case for his status as an innovative and dominant artist in the 1980s and early '90s is made by an impressive array of witnesses to talk about the King of Pop,. You have Beyoncé Knowles, Isaac Hayes, Dick Clark, Wyclef Jean, Missy Elliot, and others.

Clark recalls meeting child-star Michael and realizing he had a natural drive to be in charge, underscored by Jackson's decision to push Ben (technically a ballad sung to a rat from the movie Ben) as a single. Quincy Jones talks about partnering with Jackson despite objections by the Epic record label; his tale of a superhuman push to mix Thriller in 24 hours is fascinating. Also discussed is Jackson's pivotal appearance on the Motown 25 TV special, and his penchant for musical and stylish re-invention on Bad and subsequent albums and tours.

This makes it a definite must have for any Michael Jackson fan. Even if you have other pieces of MJ collection, but once you watch it, you will treasure it. It was great to see other performers talk about MJ's influence and my favorite part was there was a good bit of footage I have never seen before.

As a MJ fan from the very beginning of his solo career and also having visited his birthplace in Gary, Indiana, US in 2018, I am still trying to get everything I can within money limits to own and keep as a MJ fan. This DVD takes a look at what he has done throughout his career.

Interview and information about Michael, his music videos, and the interviews with people tell their version of how they work with Michael. Quincy Jones talks about Michael albums, such as ‘Off the Wall’, ‘Thriller’ as well as ‘Bad’ and ‘Dangerous’. Old clips from the Jackson 5 days up to 2004. This is more of a tribute DVD instead of having complete videos.

So to me, this DVD celebrates his life as such. I found this to be a great journey throughout the highlights of the career of Michael Jackson. It was a little less of a documentary style than I was anticipating in the sense that it was a review mostly of his Number One hits, how they came about, and the videos. However, I found the interviews with various artists who were influenced by Jackson very interesting, as well as an interview with Quincy Jones. I also found commentary on how people were impacted by Jackson's transformation of the music industry very intriguing. An entertaining watch.

If you are not a Michael Jackson fan, you might be one after you see this DVD.
