The Elvis Collection (Reliance BIG Home Video) – 2 Discs Rs. 699/-

What better way to remember Elvis Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977) than to pick up one of his best movies he is remembered for.

For the first time ever, comes a box set of Elvis movies on DVD. A twin disc collection, the set includes ‘King Creole’ and ‘Blue Hawaii’. Relive the magic of the golden days in these musical dramas as they showcase the King in his best……singing as well as acting.

This adaptation of Harold Robbins' novel, ‘A Stone for Danny Fisher’ became the title ‘King Creole’ a 1958 classic film…..the same year Elvis Presley was inducted into the U.S. Army.

Director Michael Curtiz brings on a good musical drama. Shot in glorious black & white and produced by Hal Wallis, who produced some of Presley's biggest hits (‘Loving You’ from 1957, ‘Blue Hawaii’ from 1961,’Girls!Girls! Girls!’ from 1962) and directed by Michael Curtiz (the classic ‘Casablanca’), this is one film Elvis fans just cannot miss.

The cast includes Elvis Presley, Walter Mathau, Carolyn Jones, Dean Jagger, Paul Stewart.

The movie shades the black and white era where the young Elvis (in his fourth venture in acting) in his mighty tight fitting suits looks young and adorable. Danny Fisher (Elvis Presley) is a young New Orleans teenager on the verge of completing his graduation. Working part time in a sleazy bar to make ends meet and support his family, he is forced to drop out of school to help support his father (Dean Jagger) and sister.

As a troubled teen he is portrayed as a temperamental lad, who is quick to hit anyone who comes in his way. This is seen in the bar he works where he rescues a young lady Ronnie (Carolyn Jones) from the clutches of ruthless elements. Ronnie develops a close corner for Danny while he drops her home in a cab. But he keeps his distance from her.

Danny’s past catches up with him as the evil and ruthless gangster Maxie Fields (Walter Matthau) insists on having Danny singing as his bar. Fields knows about Danny’s singing only too well and woos him to join him and quit waiting at tables. Danny refuses, but Maxie tries all he can to convince him. Maxie finally takes the help of Ronnie to lure the lad to him. But unknown to Maxie, Danny has found love in a svelte waitress Nellie (Dolores Hart) who he met at a bar he once sang at. As luck would have it, Danny is offered a stint in a posh nightclub King Creole owned by Charlie Le Grand (Paul Stewart) which is much bigger and has a galaxy of artists performing on a regular basis. Danny signs a deal. Unsure of his talent for singing and against the wishes of his father, Danny takes the offer only to be blackmailed by Fields sometime later. Filled with revenge, Fields is bent on getting even with Danny. His career and his future lies in the hands of Fields and Ronnie, his lovable alcoholic moll who he once rescued.

Now Danny is torn between a budding romance of Nellie and Ronnie. Will Danny give his heat to Ronnie or the simple Nellie? Will his career take off or will he succumb to the evils of Maxie? Find out amidst some great musical numbers which are cleverly interspersed into the storyline like ‘Hard Headed Woman’, to some knockout musical performances of ‘King Creole’, ‘Trouble’ and ‘Lover Doll’.
