Watching Tina in concert is an experience. This is the next best thing to being at one of her concerts. This is Tina at her best.
This concert was filmed in London in November 1999 to celebrate six decades of Tina Turner on planet earth. Yes the living diva is now 80 plus as we write this.
The concert starts with the 1966 classic River Deep, Mountain High. After this landmark song she sings 24 -7 which is also the title track of her latest album to date "Twenty four seven". The high tempo continuous with a great version of her 1989 smash hit Steamy Windows. You can make out her emotions come out when she takes on the high voltage When the heartache is over. She then moves to her UK hit single Whatever you need, where she is joined by the London Gospel Choir. She slips in two ballads, Don't leave me this way and her 1983 comeback hit Let's stay together are next before she is joined again by the London Gospel Choir for probably the best track of the DVD, Talk to my heart, also taken from her most recent album "Twenty four seven".
Tina gives everything she's got in her rocking version of Hold on I'm coming. The big moment comes when Canadian Bryan Adams joins her for 2 duets. This is the highlight of the whole DVD where the crooner jams with Adams on her 1985 smash hit It's only love and the recent duet Without you.
If you’ve tuned in on her album "Twenty four seven" you’ll find the song All The Woman rocking and pulsating, compared to her studio recording of the song. The concert closes with her two classics Nutbush City Limits and 1989's European number 1 The Best.
The DVD also includes birthday dedications from artists such as, Bob Geldof, Al Green, Dolly Parton, Annie Lennox, Cher, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Phil Spector, PP Arnold, Bono, Mariah Carey, Ricky Martin and Sting and a short interview with the lady herself. The best parts of this video are the archival footage of a young Tina doing the Pony and performing with ex-husband Ike Turner. Tina's footage from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's is memorable. You'll also see Tina blowing her cake's candles in some old footage.
Special Features include two Promo videos, When the Heartache is over and Whatever you need. There’s also a Biography and a Photo Gallery.
This is indeed a true celebration. Not only do you find Tina's voice at its best, you also get incredible archival footage from the early days, woven in between the songs. For example, rare footage of her singing River Deep in 1966 - a wonderful treat for fans. However the minus point here is the small venue, the camera angles are not really good with even her vocals seem overpowered by the band. Tina’s voice is really in top form, even at this age. Tender at one moment and raunchy the next.
This DVD is a must have. Tina's performance is amazing, the songs are very well chosen.
