If you love stuff like Duran Duran, Human League, OMD or Pet Shop Boys, then this is definitely for you. Frankie Goes To Hollywood is the group of my young years. I'm so happy to finally have all of FGTH's videos in one set. Just wish there was more live clips of them instead of the updated video clips.
Almost thirty years now, a virtually unknown band caused more controversy and discord with their debut single Relax, than any other infamous band before them. When Radio 1 DJ Mike Read banned Relax, no one could have possibly imagined the notoriety and fame that Frankie Goes to Hollywood would one day become.
This DVD then is essentially the days of pop songs that everyone liked and grooved to. Many of Frankie's videos had mixes that were unique to the format. And they’re all here. None are redone or remastered as it is near impossible to improve or remaster the audio from some of the earlier clips. The quality does improve as you progress to the more recent remix re-releases from '93 onwards, but the earlier '80's clips are definitely vintage quality.
So you have the band singing to you on songs like their 1993 super hit that actually made them household names, so you have Relax, Two Tribes, The Power of Love, Welcome to the Pleasuredome and Rage Hard all from the lovable Paul Rutherford, Trevor Horn and Paul Morley, but unfortunately no input from front man Holly Johnson.
There’s also an interview with Trevor Horn and Paul Morley which is as interesting as is the Photo Gallery including international sleeves, various press articles and magazine covers. It's a good release to pick up all of the classic Frankie videos in one collection, despite the poor sound quality on a few tracks.
There are 3 versions each of songs like Relax, Two Tribes and The Power of Love. FGTH burst onto the music scene and became a phenomena that no one has since matched. ‘Frankie Say Greatest’ features all their incredible, heart stopping videos that were banned and, in turn, caused playground chatter that most bands would dream of.
A good DVD for anyone who loves them.
