Amy Winehouse hit the headlines in the media for her problems in her personal life, drugs, alcohol related problems and the very public attention she got for her relationship with her boyfriend Blake Fielder - Civil.
Amy she was a talented singer/songwriter, who had one hell of a voice. This DVD captures her performance at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire in 2007 and it includes a very good selection of her songs off both her studio albums ‘Frank’ and ‘Back to Black’. There’s songs like Rehab, Tears dry on their own, I told you I was trouble, Back to Black. Love is a losing game, Valerie, Just Friends, and Some Unholy War to name just a few, which is an excellent selection of songs from her most popular period. Sometimes the vocals are sloppy and her in between ramblings make it uncomfortable to watch at times. This DVD is well made showing all angles of Amy and her band in concert. She sings from the heart and leaves nothing to the imagination.
On her rise to fame she took the US by storm when she went there to crack the US music scene, but along with the success came as the self destruct scenario that got her into the downward spiral of drugs and booze.
This DVD is well made showing all angles of Amy and her band in concert. She sings from the heart and leaves nothing to the imagination. Videos of her performances in the documentaries are riveting. contains live performances of most of her popular songs off her ‘Frank’ and ‘Back To Black’ albums including Rehab, Valerie, Just Friends, and Some Unholy War. Halfway through the concert you would be wondering how this queen could be gone. How is it we'll never get anymore songs from her? Why couldn't she have overcome those demons? Glad that we have moments like this on video so we'll never forget her. Amy, thanks for sharing your talent with us, if only for a brief snapshot in time.
But the performances are nevertheless stunning in the live concert for sure. The cinematography and audio on this DVD are top notch. Watch this DVD repeatedly on a huge screen, with a good home theater surround sound and you can relive the concert magic and image you are right there at the concert. The engineers who mastered this DVD, know their business.
Amy is now deceased at age 27. We will never know the heights which she may reached. However, during her short life she provided a talented blend of vocal productions. Her singing was some of her best. Her song, Rehab, was the most memorable, blending a unique blend of soul, blues, rock.
The over 2 hour DVD also includes a documentary ‘I Told you I was Trouble’ which is well worth viewing and includes interviews with family, friends and fans as well as Amy herself. I enjoyed seeing the documentary about how Amy became famous and the history behind some of the songs. It also shows how down to earth she can be off the stage.
A talent that will be sadly missed on the music scene. Brings a tear to my eye, that there will be no new performances from her. Such a talent, so unique. Absolutely breaks my heart, she left us far too soon. Thankfully, there is this DVD to help convey her uniqueness, and talent to countless multitudes of adoring fans.
