James Galway At the Waterfront – (Import)

James Galway is featured in a 90 minute recital from the Waterfront hall in Belfast in 1999, and in conversation with Melvyn Bragg on LWT's South Bank show. Galway talks candidly about his childhood, his teachers, his time at the Berlin Philharmonic and his solo career.

This disc is split in two parts - the 90 minute recital and the 50 minute documentary.

He's been called pied piper and a pop musician par excellence, but Ireland's James Galway, the world's best-known flautist, is mostly celebrated for his outstanding musical talent, his enthusiasm, and his efforts to redefine the boundaries of classical and popular music.

His unique tone has sold millions of recordings and won him many awards over the last few decades.

Tracklisting of the concert includes Introduction; Sonata; Sonata; La Flute de pan; Fantaisie; Andante et Rondo; Jeanne's Song; Il Pastore Svizzero; Danny Boy; The Flight of the Bumble-bee; Rimsky.

Would recommend to anyone with a flautist in their household.  It’s a great video with many closeups of Sir James Galway's technique and his beautiful instruments. Way better than a front row seat (well, almost). The bonus interview is great as well. If you are a fan of James Galway, you should have this DVD. Galway never dissapoints. A genuine first class performance
