One of the greatest rock n roll albums of all time as any die hard Floyd fan will admit is The Wall. It is a truly stunning album that is just as good today as it was in 1979 when it was released. After the split with the band, Waters got the rights to the album, while David Gilmour got the rights to the name. In this over two hour spectacle, we go through the entirety of the album, in chronological order, to experience what the album was.
Roger Waters co founder and songwriter of rock band Pink Floyd brings to screen footage filmed during a three-year solo tour that found Waters performing Pink Floyd’s The Wall in its entirety. The documentary – concert film also offers a behind-the-scenes look at his personal journey between the shows, driving through the France countryside to Italy in his vintage Bentley in order to visit the graves of his father and grandfather. When he visits his grandfather’s grave, he is alone in the cemetery, when suddenly an array of silent, black-clad figures appear eerily in shot; well scripted we’d say, while he chills out in a bar he explains to a silent barman how his father died at the Battle of Monte Cassino, Quite intriguing dialogue that you must hear carefully.
If you have never been able to attend a Roger Waters show (Waters performed in Mumbai on 18th February 2007), this DVD should give you an idea of what you missed. Check out the jaw-dropping extravaganza involving light projections and massive puppets, the flying pig, the huge wall constructed onstage and demolished over the course of an evening. All the videos are projected on the huge screen, including the iconic Berlin wall crumbling down which also ends the amazing concert.
Classics like In the Flesh, Another Brick in the Wall (I, II, III), Hey you, Mother, Comfortably Numb and other tracks are all here. Go out and get this DVD.
Bonus material includes two featurettes.
