From Grammy award winning artistes to brilliant prodigies to local artistes, the Mahindra Blues Festival is the must see festival for the growing number of blues fans in India.
This DVD showcases the best of the event held in 2015 over the weekend of 14th and 15th February at the iconic Mehboob Studios in Mumbai. The 90 minute – 12 track playlist opens with a homegrown product performing for the fourth consecutive year Warren Mendonsa’s Blackstratblues who decided to pay tribute to the greats of blues by inviting singers Dominique Cerejo who performed Sam Cooke’s A Change is gonna come, and Nikhil D’souza belting out Pink Floyd’s mega hit Shine on you Crazy Diamond.
Debutant Nikki Hill who with her soulful and rhythm and blues powerful vocals leaves you breathless, as she croons lovingly on Struttin’ and Twistin’ the Night away. She is backed by her husband Matt Hill on guitar, who at one point also plays it behind his head.
If you wanted some old time blues, Danish group Thorbjorn Risager and the Black Tornados bring you their dose reminiscent of the Big Band style of blues and jazz in terms of sound as well as look. Two tracks Precious Time and Let the4 Good Times roll bring back memories of a tight set complete with brass side and keyboards.
15 year old Quinn Sullivan is a treat to watch again. The dashing young lad played My Sweet guitar and a beautiful soulful version of the classic Little Wing which is one of the highlights here.
Doyle Bramhall II finds his way here with Rich Robinson, the ex-founding member of The Black Crowes who together bring you two tracks Problem Child and the swinging Green Light Girl some amazing rendition of raspy Texas style vocals and searing leads. Six time Grammy winning guitarist Buddy Guy ends the night with Skin Deep and bringing on all the performers with an All Star Jam with Sweet Home Chicago.
