The sequel to the mega hit ‘Grease’, the second edition is equally interesting, though the story telling is the lowdown here. ‘Grease 2’ per se has no connection to the original film, except of course it focuses on teens at Rydell High, the imaginary school from the first film, which starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. But other than a few of the teachers, and of course the lovable Pink Gang, all of the characters are new and so are the songs, most of them simply charming songs and a pleasure to listen to again and again.
Grease 2 stars among others a fairly unknown Michelle Pfeiffer, Maxwell Caulfield, and Lorna Luft (Judy Garland's daughter). The plot strangely is a reversal of the first film, in which a guy fell for a girl. In this film you have Caulfield, who catches the eye of tough girl Pfeiffer and her Pink Lady gang.
Set in the early 1960’s when a new British student, Michael Carrington (Caulfield), rides into town and joins the ranks at Rydell High. It's 1961, two years after the original Grease gang graduated, and there's a new crop of seniors. A studious student by all means, he falls head over heels in love with a blonde bombshell leader of the Pink Ladies, Stephanie Zinone (Pfeiffer). But unknown to him, Michael finds himself the root of all fun, as the Pink Ladies are the hippest clique of chicks at Rydell, who only date their class of boys, namely the T-Birds, a bunch of boys who are robust and fun to be with. He professes his love for Stephanie, but she turns him down, as she sings ‘Cool Rider’ and tries to dance up that ladder and down. the musical scale of entertainment is high and ‘Cool Rider’ is one of the best songs and Michelle Pfeiffer's only solo on the soundtrack.
Michael has to get Stephanie as he is very smitten by her. He gets the message of what she wants and turns himself from a geek to a greaser to see if he can win the gorgeous Stephanie’s heart. But the T- Birds are after him to prevent any contact with their babes. Can he fix up an old motorcycle, don a leather jacket, avoid a rumble with the leader of the T-Birds, and win the heart of Pink Lady Stephanie Zinone? He's surely going to try. Will he win Stephanie’s heart or won’t he?
The clothes, hairstyles, songs, and the mannerisms all move to the era of the 60s. You cannot miss the vintage cars and mobikes. Infact there is one scene showing guys motorcycling through a road giving chase to Michael.
Grease 2 is fun all the way, for a newcomer who is watching it for the first time or a 60 year old who watched it on screen in his college days. Relive the magic.
