The Badshah of Bollywood - Shahrukh Khan top Hindi films

Shah Rukh Khan, the King of Romance, has been ruling the Hindi film industry since the last two decades. His effortless execution of dialogues and charisma makes him among the most celebrated Bollywood actors of all time. On his 57th birthday (2nd November) which just went by, we reminisce some of his best performances of all times.

Presenting fans with an opportunity to celebrate Shahrukh Khan’s best films especially with some of his most memorable roles from the 1990s.

Here are some the best Shahrukh Khan's 1990s movies that will make you sing - Baadshah hey Baadshah.

Josh (2000)

Okay, we are making an early exception here just like Shahrukh Khan did in this film. While we have promised to list down the best 1990s movies, Josh, which released in 2000, is a treat to all SRK lovers, according to us. Shahrukh's character ‘Max’ is a pure delight to watch as the sometimes happy, sometimes gruffy gangster with a heart of gold. Besides enthralling us with his performance, Shahrukh also sang a song in the movie.

Yes Boss (1997)

Directed by Aziz Mirza, Yes Boss touched everyone's hearts with its melodious songs coupled with splendid performances from Shahrukh Khan and Juhi Chawla. We can still not get over…Main koi aisa geet gaaun…! Watch this romantic comedy with your family. 

Deewana (1992)

This Shahrukh Khan, Rishi Kapoor and Divya Bharti starrer packs a punch with an intense storyline and some great music. Get ready for a fantastic ride as a 26-year-old Shahrukh Khan will make you fall in love with him all over again. We’re living for the scene when he makes an entry on the bike singing Koi na koi chahiye pyaar karne wala...! Truly the 90s were an amazing time in Bollywood history and SRK, was rightly called King Khan.

Baadshah (1999)

Fondly known as the Baadshah of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan is sure to impress you with his comic timing, romantic scenes and mind-boggling action sequences, in this 1999 flick that also features Twinkle Khanna and Amrish Puri. 

Deewana

Shah Rukh Khan made his silver screen debut with the Rishi Kapoor and Divya Bharati starrer, essaying a second lead. The film was a massive hit, with SRK winning his first Filmfare award through his gripping performance. Deewana is a story of a singer marries his biggest fan, but his uncle plans to kill him in order to gain his money.

Baazigar

The Abbas-Mustan crime thriller stars Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Dalip Tahil, Rakhee Gulzar, Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Siddharth, Johnny Lever, Ananth Narayan Mahadevan and Daboo Malik, among others. Baazigar revolves around a young man with a vendetta against a business tycoon, where he seduces and kills his eldest daughter, proceeding to do the same with his younger daughter. The plot thickens as she begins to suspect her new lover's ulterior motive. This was the first time Shah Rukh played the role of an antagonist in a film.

Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman

In the Aziz Mirza directorial, Shah Rukh Khan plays Raj Mathur, a budding engineer who comes to Mumbai in search of a job. Raju comes to Bombay chasing his dreams, but keeps losing out on opportunities. His love, Renu helps him find a job. Success goes to his head until one day a tragic accident destroys his reputation.

Darr

Written and directed by Yash Chopra, Darr features Shah Rukh Khan in the role of an obsessive lover Rahul who wants to gain control over his muse Kiran (Juhi Chawla).  Kiran plans to marry a navy officer but she is also the object of SRK’s obsession. SRK received tremendous praise for Darr for making bad look good.

Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge

Romantic drama Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge has completed over 25 years of its release. It gave Indian cinema one of its most-loved onscreen couples in Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. The cult film is a directorial debut of Aditya Chopra and also stars Amrish Puri, Farida Jalal, Anupam Kher, Mandira Bedi, Himani Shivpuri, Parmeet Sethi and Satish Shah among others.

Mohabbatein

The film recently completed its 20th year, The Aditya Chopra directorial is packed with dollops of romance, delightful locations, friendship and peppy songs. The movie stars Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Amitabh Bachchan, Uday Chopra, Shamita Shetty, Jugal Hansraj, Kim Sharma, Jimmy Sheirgill, Anupam Kher and Archana Puran Singh among others. The film is about the battle between love and fear, between two stubborn men and their opposing beliefs and the outcome of the love stories of 3 couples.

Om Shanti Om

Remember, “Picture abhi baaki hai mere dost?” and “Ek chutki sindoor ki keemat..” Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan collaborated for Om Shanti Om in this 2007’s reincarnation revenge drama, and the result was spectacular. The film had some great songs and dialogues, which are evergreen.  In the 1970s, Om, an aspiring actor, is murdered, but is immediately reincarnated into the present day. He attempts to discover the mystery of his demise and find Shanti, the love of his previous life.

Fauji

Fauji is SRK’s first on-screen appearance ever where he played the role of lieutenant Abhimanyu Rai in this TV series based on the Indian Army. Fauji is a highly popular TV Series about a batch of trainees into a commando school, their training and eventual induction as soldiers. If you are a true SRK fan, you definitely can’t miss out on watching this movie.
