Moondance – Van Morrison

However magnificent and landmark ‘Astral Weeks’ is considered today, the album failed at the charts and made very little money, when it was released in 1968 (isn’t that always the case with any masterpiece that is ahead of its time?). Determined to create a success next, Van Morrison came up with ‘Moondance’ in 1970 and a huge success it was, both critically and commercially.

La Bionda – La Bionda

The seventies music can never be forgotten. My pick of Italian brothers Michaelangelo (Angelo) and Carmelo La Bionda dance album ‘La Bionda’, is for the nostalgia I have of the 70s music that I grew up listening to. Growing up listening to this kind of music you never want to let go of the roots of disco music, in all its different styles and places

Purple Rain – Prince and the Revolution

I was halfway into writing my next LP review when the shocker came. Prince is dead. My first reaction was to consider it as an internet hoax. Ten minutes and some research later, it was a confirmed piece of news. Yet another musical giant gone.

Bob Dylan – Bob Dylan

The LP comes in a clear record sleeve with no artwork, instead what you get is only a plastic sleeve, with no indication of the songwriters, producer or even the band members then.

Astral Weeks – Van Morrison

The truth is, that I’ve been trying to review this album for a long time now and every time I embark upon the task, I fail, miserably. So this time I just thought I shall write about my failures. I will try and write about why I am unable to write about this album.

The Best of Uriah Heep

I have very fond memories of this album even though the track Sweet Lorraine simultaneously blew my then stereo`s speakers when the synthesizer kicked in at the start of the verse.

Love Songs – Cliff Richard

Cliff Richard was one of my early music heroes. He sang in a beautiful voice and his songs were simple to understand. My father loved his music and to top it all he had an Indian connection - he was born in Lucknow. In fact, I used to feel very good about this particular aspect

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars – David Bowie

Very few albums in the history of popular music are so complete right from start to finish. Many contain material of which not a note can be skipped. And no album has created a fictional character of this dimension. In popular culture, Ziggy Stardust is perhaps as prominent as Sherlock Holmes or The Joker.

Anytime….. Anywhere – Rita Coolidge

If you rewind to the mid 70s Rita Coolidge is one artist you might remember. Pop, country or jazz, Coolidge manages to take off easily on all these genres. Listen to her smooth vocals on this album.
