One of the most successful music directors of Bollywood Film industry, the duo of Laxmi Pyare have composed music for more than 500 films! They have given us unforgettable, memorable songs which are so hummable and popular even today. Having deep knowledge of Indian and Western instrumentation and superb orchestration backed by strong rhythm section they churned out innumerable hits in the 60's and 70's. Their simple melodies touched the heart of millions making them the most sought after, numero uno directors.
I have chosen Inteqam because rarely does one come across an album which has all the songs as hits. Starting from superbly sung (and superbly picturised on the incomparable Helen) cabaret number "Aa jaane jaan" by Lataji...our only regret is why Lataji's voice was not utilised for sensuous numbers by other music directors. In the same vein are "Kaise Rahu Chup" and "Mehfil Soyee". The other songs in the album, namely "Hum Tumhare Liye" - duet by Lata & Rafi, "Geet Tere Saaz Ka" - Lata & "Jo Unki Tamanna" by Rafi demonstrate how simple melodies can touch our hearts and remain with us forever.
Other albums by the duo which I would recommend are: Parasmani (1963), Dosti (1964), Shagird (1967), Milan (1967), Farz (1967), Mere Humdum Mere Dost (1968), Jigri Dost (1969), Jeene Ki Raah (1969), Do Raaste (1969), Humjoli (1970), Khilona (1970), Abhinetri (1970), Aan Milo Sajna (1970), Shor (1972), Ek Nazar (1972), Daag (1973), Bobby (1973)...oh there are so many more!
