Long Road Out of Eden – 2 LPs - Eagles

This is indeed the last studio album of Eagles, featuring some excellent tracks with great lead guitar work and intricate harmony vocals. Having been a fan for some years it was great to hear the Eagles again. Yes this album is extremely well recorded but unfortunately it is mostly just that. The presence of Joe Walsh is evident throughout as he brings some rockier edge including a superb solo on the title track. Glen Frey and Don Henley did some great job in songwriting and composition. The 2LP set has enough signature of typical Eagles material, influenced by the elements of country rock and harmonies. European pressing with textured gatefold cover and lyrics insert.

14 years of separation and hence this album lets out all the pent up music Eagles had to offer all these years. Though the concert was a sign that the reunion was a temporary affair, and a desire to return to the country style sound where they had started out, it was perhaps a step in the wrong direction for those who only knew them for their slightly harder edged sound. But ‘The Long Run’ where the fan base remained faithful, it sold in droves, and if you are a fan, you probably already have this album.

After a couple of listens, the stand out tracks are No More Cloudy Days and It's Your World Now, the latter given extra poignancy by Glenn Frey's death. That a grand old band still can produce a beautiful album nearly 30 years after their split, without falling back on older material such as the Rolling Stones usually does is a revelation in itself. The majority of the tracks are easy on the ears and a must listen is of course Long Road Out of Eden which is brilliant and Last Good Time in Town, written and with lead vocal by Joe Walsh that shows Joe has still got the magic. The other pieces to tune into include How long, Guilty of the Crime, Busy being Famous.

The group is in brilliant from no matter what track you play. The vocals are first rate the guitar playing is out of this world and when you play it on vinyl it’s simply stunning.

The songs are sober, sometimes referring to Crosby, Stills and Nash style like No more walks in the woods, swinging in the old Eagles-tradition. If you’ve seen the DVD (reviewed by me on www.musicunplugged.in in its 15 th February DVD review section) realize that this is not a super- band which has to do a huge show with firework and large electronic stuff to hide their age and imperfections.

Not many Eagles fans of the 80's music have heard this album. I recommend they do cause it’s amazing to hear how a band can maintain and evolve its class. This is in many ways is their defining masterpiece.
